BMW wins emissions... With a 3l i6 vs the 2l 4 pot of the amg ... Can someone explain me how amg managed to screw exactly that up? The main reason to ditch the v8 in the first place

Blame EU regs. On paper and in unrealistic real world scenarios it probably is more efficient by a completely negligible amount. On average, likely worse than larger displacement engines that are not huffing and puffing to get moving.

Not sure about Belgium, but in number of countries they tax displacement, so smaller engines cars are still cheaper to buy.

No tax here is based on emissions.
in that regard a gt 63 4door e performance is cheaper then a normal gt 63 4door. But i cant imagine the fact that some countries have high tax for the v8 is the reason. In the Nederlands it is based on weight... Imagine the cost there for the new one...

Right in some Scandinavian countries V8 is cost prohibitive. France taxes on cylinders as well, Germany and UK not so much.

Weight would had been the cause to that, otherwise you would think the electrification will help boost economy but it didn't. Hopefully facelift things improve in MB's favour.

I drove the new c63 for 2 days straight. I got to the event in a G80 M3 and left it in the G80 M3 so I have a very good comparison. And I also had the w205 c63s before and currently have the G82 M4 and the AMG GT R.
The new C63 isn’t the car that I’d buy. It was super unreliable, AMG had to swap the car for me when the first one failed. On the second car the turbo was having issues but they didn’t have another car for me to drive so I got stuck with that one. It is fast though, when it works.
BMW has a much better product now. Shame on Mercedes.

Which event was this? I've been looking at the AMG Experience events, but the fleet is unconvincing. The only car I'm interested in driving is the SL 63. Waiting for the new GT to be in their fleet. Just can't convince myself to pay for an event to drive the new C63 and your experience confirms it. Reminds me of all the issues they had with the AMG One. The electric turbo seems to be a common source of trouble now.

It was the Nürburgring - Nordschleife for 3 days. I went there only to drive the new C63 as no dealer in the US will allow test drives when this car eventually gets to the US.
The new GT won’t arrive to their stable until the next year. They MIGHT have one or two for Sweden and only to showcase it, not to drive it.

Where do you see that? Although, the C63 real world is much worse off from the rated WLTP, it's lower than the BMW. The main takeaway is that in the real world these downsized engines are not as efficient as they are being touted.

First column is the BMW. WLTP at the top, real world test and eco below. BMW is off by 30g at the high-end and C63 by more than double at 73g. Is this the next emissions scandal?

Hmmm, curious but how did the car behave when desired recuperation wasn't available?

Yes. Curious to hear any other driving impressions. How was the sound? Did the car drive okay in comfort mode vs sport? How was the suspension? Did you feel the weight of the vehicle?

Thanks so much.

Also hoping to finally test drive the M3 in the next few weeks.

Hows the handling compare to the m3/m4. Steering feel vs bmw? Which is a better daily? How does the weight affected the cornering speeds and feel? So many questions.

When the battery had charge in it the car was very fast but once battery got depleted the loss of power was noticeable. And there definitely was a lag when the electric motor was about to kick in. Oh and transmission is garbage, I have never experienced a more jerky transmission in my life.

The car was comfortable to drive in both Comfort and Sport modes. Rear steering was hiding the weight very good but the car still reminded me every time about how heavy it is.
The sound wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. In some way I liked it more than the BMW M4/M3.

Yep, that's what many reviews have reported as well. Power is inconsistent and laggy, and to top it off full power is only available during short boost moments. As for the transmission, they seem to struggle with adapting the MCT to the M139. Same complaints with the C43 and in the C63 SE it's further complicated by the additional 2-speed transmission on the rear axle. This has already been reported with the GT 63 SE. You get the shifts of the main transmission and then you feel the shift of the 2-speed transmission at odd moments. When I drove the GT 63 SE on the Nürburgring, I didn't notice the 2-speed transmission, but it's also been said it works better at full tilt on the track than it does with normal driving on the road. The weight problem was expected. Only so much they can do to hide that. Was the biggest problem with the GT 63 SE as well and very obvious when driving it back to back with the regular GT 63 S.

Thanks for sharing and I am guessing the battery was never able to recharge during the entire duration of the test drive due to that that error you faced?

I have had the car for 3 days and 75% of the time it performed well. My opinion is that Mercedes’s weak link is the software, not hardware. And on-site AMG techs shared the same opinion.

Fair enough, it does seem that way. I would agree. Mercedes Me have issues a lot of times and so is the private lounge website. The AMG MCT like another forum member mentioned is a great transmission hindered by the software. The MBUSA configurator takes forever to be updated (but understandably that is a completely different team and probably a regional issue) The E Performance drivetrain is a feat of engineering also hindered by poor software control, the different systems and drivetrains have communication problems as a result, almost like a language barrier. Another thing MB does poorly is managing the weight of all these components.
