New Spyshots, Next C63 to Debut in New York says AMG Head.
Question: Is the M156 (AMG's naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8) dead?
Tobias: (After at least five seconds of pained, sad expression) Yes. When asked whether we’ll see the M156’s replacement soon, he said, “Wait for New York.” They haven’t publicly given the engine a designation yet, but he did that say that the output will not exceed the M157 (5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8), at least not initially. You can assume the car in New York will be the C63 AMG replacement. However, Tobias also indicated that we’ll see the debut of the new sports car, rumored to be named the GT AMG. This car will feature the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. The new sports car will cost less than the Gullwing, and that gives the car, “More opportunities,” meaning that you can expect a whole portfolio of variants very similar to the Porsche 911. We can also expect to see the S63 Coupe (and maybe S65 Coupe and S600 Coupe) at the New York show. 2014 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG 507 Edition Rear End In Motion.
Question: How do you feel about the fact that the G63 is the best-selling AMG product in the U.S.?
Tobias: (Laughing) It’s always complicated. Mr. Moers also confirmed that they are beginning to develop the G65 and its 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 engine for the U.S. market. The hold-up right now is crash testing, specifically passive safety. “If the airbags work then we’re good. If we have to move a steering column or something, forget about it.” When asked if AMG will be bringing their awesome 6x6 monster truck to the States, Tobias said, “I’d love to sell it!” Mercedes Benz AMG GT Prototype Front Three Quarter
Question: Now that you’re head of AMG, are you worried about Black Series development? Tobias: It’s still me. When pressed, he explained that there has always been a team of engineers tasked with developing Black Series cars, but that he has final sign off on how they drive, even in his new position. He’s still very much involved in engineering. This is true of all AMGs.
Question: Will we ever see a V-6 AMG motor in a C-Class or E-Class?
Tobias: What is our unique selling point? The V-8. Why would you want a [six-cylinder]?
Question: What do you think of the Audi TT Quattro Sport Concept that produces 420 hp from a turbo 2.0-liter, heavily besting the 355 hp that AMG makes in the CLA45/GLA45? Tobias: They lost a comparison between the CLA45 and the TT-RS at AutoMotor Und Sport. What are they doing? They’re chasing us, as always. Will AMG respond to the 420-hp TT if it goes into production? Not initially. “We have to protect our customers.” Meaning that if tomorrow AMG releases a 421-hp version of the CLA45, it will **** off existing customers. This is especially relevant in the U.S., where the 2014 CLA45s are sold out.
Question: How important is weight from an engineering perspective?
Tobias: Don’t overestimate it.
Question: Will AMG continue making V-12 engines?
Tobias: As long as there are customers. Some people like the extra sophistication. Maybe the next-generation V-12 needs a plug-in hybrid? Who knows?
Question: Are the horsepower wars over? Tobias:
Answer:No.

Thaks for this.
Judging from this spy shot the W205 C63 might be the most subdued C63 ever.
Haha I love this guy. If you want a puny V6 go buy an ///M. or ///MPA with ///MPP. lol

BMW's using M to effectively kill any desire for me to buy another one. At least MB hasn't started watering down the AMG badge to that extent.

It will be in the center console. Only the S Class maintains the steering column shifter for the AMG S63/65.
#7
Some evidence please (especially spy photos) that the gear shifter is still in the center console for the new w205 c63.

There is no "evidence"
You wondered and I tried to ease your mind with the FACT that EVERY car that mercedes sells with a column shifter, the AMG version has had a center console shifter except the S class.
There is no "evidence" suggesting that this trend will change.
Honestly I would be glad if they got rid of console shifters in AMG cars. Replace it with something modern please Mercedes.

And here is your "evidence"
These guys are the reason why the console shifter will never go away anytime soon.
The defenders of the thing that you touch once to put in D and then never touch again till you put it in P.
"Modern": My whole point is that is can be a column shifter like Mercedes, or Buttons like Lamborghini and Ferrari, or a Dial like Jaguar, maybe even something entirely new and innovative.
"Modern": My point is that I would rather have the cleaner look and the extra real estate than a console shifter.

I have some real evidence:
According to the latest version of Mercedes EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) the new w205 c63 will have the gear shifter to the steering column.
Center console and steering column parts and diagrams for WDD205087XXXXXXXX (c63) and for WDD205088XXXXXXXX (C63 PP) show clearly that the new w205 c63 would be supplied with a 7 speed automatic transmission and with steering column gear shifter.
So definitely no more center console automatic transmission for any w205 variant (including the c63). The w205 C63 joined the steering column shifter trend of the S, ML, GL, R, CL AMG variants as I suspected.

Anyway, if Mercedes releases the C63 without a console shifter I will come back here to watch some old men throw a gigantic internet hissy fit.

Yes! great find on a vehicle that is not even developed yet. I am sure that Mercedes will have the full parts catalog for a vehicle still in development.

I'm sorry, I just don't buy it. I think you found a part for the standard C-Class with Sport Package.
If the CLA45 AMG has a center-console mounted shifter/gear selector, so will the W205 C63.

Seriously, it would SUCK to lose the ability to use the gear selector for M mode.

Enough though my CLA45 has the console gear selector they unfortunately don't give you the ability to shift while in M mode with it. Paddles only.

True, I forgot that the '14 E63-style/CLA45-style, etc. shifter is "electronic."

That would be a giant step backward.
