2015 AMG C63 not to be built in Alabama

I asked the question of 'Where will the new C63 AMG be built and if European delivery will be available?!' on MB USA's facebook page and got a response which eventually was removed. But they said that currently they will not be built in the US but 'never say never'. I wish I took a screen capture prior to them removing the response.

According to the QnA from the private lounge, all W205s will be built in Germany except for the ones going to North America. I believe they will be made in Tennessee.

I'm from NY and from what Mercedes wrote on their wall and then removed I'm inferring that the normal C class will assembled in Alabama while the AMG C63 will be made in Germany. In addition, the engine will not be made in Tennessee rather in Germany as well.

Test driving a W204 C63 on Thursday to get an idea about the car. Obviously old technology and what not but want to see what all the hullabaloo is about with the MCT transmission. Having had several DCT cars(GTi and E90 M3) I'd be hard pressed to think that it'll be on the same playing field.

So what are you "inferring" from the fact that what that individual posted was immediately removed?

I am pretty sure that Thrilla gave you the correct information from a reliable source.

I don't think the most important aspect of this vehicle for anyone here is the transmission. It is a perfectly good, robust transmission. It is not DCT so it will not be at that level but I think your test drive will reveal the other factors that should overwhelmingly override the lack of a DCT transmission.

Good luck, have fun with your test drive!

I was told by a dealer that it would be built here and the engine would shipped here. They said European delivery wasn't gonna be available when I talked to the European delivery person at the dealer.

Considering that 1/2 of all C63's made are sold in the US and Canada it only makes sense to make them here

MB USA finally responded after they removed their comment. No European delivery available. Was hoping 1) not to pay MSRP 2) get to the Nurburgring and SPA in the coming year before the whole financial situation surrounding the 'Ring could jeopardize the time I may actually be able to go drive on it.

I didn't end up going for the test drive yesterday due to the rain in NYC and inability to get out of the office. Test driving a car in Manhattan didn't seem too thrilling to begin with but would have done it. Definitely had my heart set on the W205 C63 but appears the M3 is the way to go for me for the next 4-5 years. Unlike last time, I won't sell my M3 16 months later for a Porsche Cayenne S.

Here was my European Delivery on the 2011.5 ZCP M3:

I'm not sure I would let where it is built decide what car I bought
I would buy what I wanted regardless
What matters is the design, it can be built anywhere as long as qa/ac is good

on the street daily driving i dont think its a big deal but on spirited drives and the track its gotten frustrating (particularly on downshifts). the MCT may be a deal breaker for me on this gen since pretty much every other car in its price range has a better transmission and the engine doesnt seem to be special compared to its competition anymore.

Would you buy a new C63 if it was made in China? Mercedes, Audi and BMW are all building cars there for the domestic market. I'm sure their QA/AC standards are pretty good?

If the car was fully assembled by robots, and the tolerances were checked by robots and the robots serviced the robots, then I wouldn't mind. However, if Mercedes decides to build there Halo cars outside of Affalterbach, I'll take a pass. You too, Acura NSX!

I've toured German assembly plants and there is a reason their cars are awesome. The people assembling them care, and take great pride in their work and product. They are perfectionists by nature. Can the same be said for Tuscaloosa, Alabama?

Have you taken a tour at the Tuscaloosa plant?
You don't know the difference between that plant and any of the others around the world.

I would agree with Ingenieur's point. However, if quality issues arrise from Tuscaloosa then obviously the build location would matter.

As to the OP, I don't think he cares about the car, he just wants the European delivery experience.
