Nice spec S estate or edition 1, config pics added........ Car ordered20/10/2014 ;)

Hi guys

Brief introduction from me, after working as a mechanic for mercedes for a few years before going into oil and gas I always loved the C63 but never thought I would be in a situation to order a new one.

After looking at facelift C63 and the rarer 507 I just couldn't justify the frankly rediculous fuel consumption as a family motor ( I know I am in oil so kinda man logic says I would be doing myself out of work going for a economical car ) so made the compromise and bought the wife a SQ5 bi turbo .

Now the audi was very nice and sounded cool for a diesel but I couldn't help but stare at every C63 I seen on the roads in aberdeen, think my subconscious was telling me something. So roll on the day that autocar published the official C63 estate pics and I was in love and knew I had to grow a set and get one.

Sorry for the long winded drivel but we are getting there , I have spent what feels like the last few days on the UK configurator and have my dream spec
C63 AMG S estate
Designo diamond white or polar white
19" code 662 alloys with black centres
AMG night package
Air balance package
Premium package
H73 carbon fibre interior trim
857a red pepper nappa leather
U78 AMG exhaust system

But here is the curveball although the edition1 is more expensive and has a lot of these options as standard, it has those stunning seats and my long term desire .....red designo seatbelts.

So I thought the edition1 was going to be perfect, well till I saw the graphics that it comes with and the main problem.................I let the wife see it and tried to justify the wee bit extra money. Her response I think has killed it, it looks like a boy racers car , nooooooooooooooooo.

Question is do I go with the edition1 and ask if the factory can leave off the graphics or just stick with the specced up S estate and enquire about getting designo red seatbelts for it ?, but I am liking the rare factor to the edtion1.

Cheers guys

Well your subconscious told you to get it in the first place, what's your heart leaning to at the moment?

That I am not too sure, if the edition came with a bit more power over the S or offered something truly special ( interior trimming aside) it maybe a easier decision. I have been informed that there will only be 35 editions coming to the UK , but I am maybe getting ahead of myself as the dealer is going to be speaking to the factory to see if there is any edition allocations left

507 is still a very nice car but in the UK they are still commanding the same price as a new C63 S , as much as I love the look and sound of the old model the new one just ticks all the boxes

Same price as the new one? Ouch. My vote is for the Estate S, but if the interior differences are a big deal in your opinion then it's a no brainer. Talk to your dealer about adding the seatbelts to the Estate they might be able to do it. Let us know how it goes!

But I do agree with my wife that the stripes do look a bit boy racer and wonder if they could be left off from the factory

The stripes will be easy to remove. Have the dealer do it as a courtesy for you. Drive it for a while first, you never know they might grow on you and the wife.

The C63 Estate looks awesome.

(notice the Polar white one has a defect in the fender/bumper lip. MB should do a better job proofing its postings).

I have the similar dilemma with my CLA45 order. For 2015 int he US, THE AMG studio performance package adds that extra touch to the interior I'm looking for but because it basically replicate the Edition 1 options. I'm not a fan of the racing stripe but I don't mind it if it means I can get everything else I want. If the stipe doesn't grow on me then I'll simply remove it. So my advice to you is get the Edition 1 and remove the stripe if you feel the need to.

Well spotted mort but those are actually little spats I think to either aid airflow or prevent stonechips, I have seen them on other cars before

Get the edition1 as life is too short and you should always find ways to prevent future regrets. Just remove the boy-racer strips like I did on my 507. I had the dealer's detailing guy remove it, along with the model number, etc... the moment we shook on the deal and before I paid (to ensure there won't be any problems lol)

Get the edition 1 and have the stripes removed, they're just stick on decals which you can buy from the AMG performance studio (at great expense). Although I will be envious if I see that car driving around Aberdeen

Well guys thanks for all the positive comments.

Decision made ................ Order in and initial deposit paid for a edition1 estate, got the spec nailed but just struggling with colour choice. But turn up for the books, the stripes will be staying on the car till we see it in the flesh .

So probably won't get it till June due to my rotation dates but will be well worth the wait

Edition 1 is not for me. Too much red accent and those stripes kill it!
I would have gone white estate with black wheels and night package or CF exterior package.
Man if only those estates could come to the US ...

I'm really disappointed to see the rear looking so much like the A4 Avant.

Funny but I actually don't mind the stripe.

I find it gives the car it's character. I never thought I'd be saying this as I'm so down to the detail and love cars clean looking.

Ah it's always nice to see a wee touch of Doric on a predominantly american site .

Think it's going to be a few weeks to maybe a month before the exact spec has to go in, but with the way the oil industry is the now is it really worthwhile me spending an additional 4.5k to get the edition, or just keep the 4.5k and go with my spec S estate ?

If you're leasing it the edition probably isn't much more. It might hold its value a bit better.... until they bring out the equivalent of a 507 or other special edition.

Nah not leasing the car, going down the pcp route as I have a real bad habit of changing cars frequently !! .

I know what you mean about the local dealer, especially as merc in aberdeen is now owned by arnold Clark . I had already been given ALOT of advance info by the dealer that I have ordered the car from and only went into to check out the size of the c class estate they had in the showroom.

I made them aware that I wanted the new C63 s estate but usual Arnie techniques they tried to sell me the C250 AMG line in the showroom saying that it was just as good ?????
