Anyone move BMW to MB? M to AMG?
So this is my first post to the forum but have to admit I've followed a lot of the comments made over the past few months.
Anyway, like many of you I'm waiting on the official release of the C63S configurator so I can take a look at a potential build. Without going into many details, I recently began thinking about selling my 2015 BMW M4 for the C63S. There are many personal reasons for considering this but the main reason is I need four doors. Why not the M3? Well, I don't track my cars so my underlying fear is I won't enjoy the best of the M as a daily driver. After my break in service, I pushed the car quite a bit but still felt the quickness was not where I expected. I'm not sure if the true power of the M is revealed on the track or not -- but I don't feel it. The overall power of the C63S appears to have what I'm looking for but I won't know until I can get behind the wheel and do a butt dyno.
With that said, are there others out there that share my situation? Specifically, any M4 (M3) owners out there considering the C63/S? I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts? Thanks...!
1) Personally I liked the C63 better than the previous gen M3, they were "different cars" but for everyday driving the C63 can be best described as "more fun" by most who have driven both. On the track most people would have taken the M3, but I don't track my cars (no time, busy with a young family).
2) I switched to the 335 xdrive because my C63 had some engine issues (won't go into details, nothing common and wouldn't stop me from buying another one) that scared me out of owning it after the warranty was over, and since at that time it was the end of life cycle for both the M3 and C63 I decided to get a more efficient car with AWD to hold me over until NOW! and I love the decision I made as the F30 335 has been a great car for me.
3) I have gone back and forth on what to get for my next car, have a 4 and 6 year old so 4 doors is a must as they are in my car every day and its just easier with 4 doors. Having owned a C63 in the past and loving the driving experience (personally I don't mind the transmission, most BMW M owners would say they could never drive a non DCT...), I am really considering a C63 (why I am on these boards), but M3 is also something special, best M3 to date, and its interior is a ton better than the old one as well.
Like you if I go to the C63 its most likely going to be the "S" version as I think it will only be about $5K price difference when loaded the same as the regular (I know the base will be higher than that but it comes with a lot more standard than the regular one). I think the C63 will be more fun to drive on a daily commute, the interior is amazing (except for ipad screen with 2" border
) I personally like the exterior, maybe not as much as the M3, but enough that its not a negative to me, however I will only consider it if they offer the bright red and blue colors shown in pictures (which is not certain in the US right now!).a few things to consider with Mercedes/AMG and the C63
-maintenance is not included, I believe the 4 year 40,000 plan (BMW is 50,000 mile included) will cost about $2,400 extra, gotta add that to the base cost of the car when comparing them
-you will burn through rear tires like crazy (I was going through them every 6K miles driving conservatively while my father could go 12K-15K in his M3), just the crazy torque and aggressive stance of the C63.
-The M3 gets more recognition, by that I mean more people know what it is, this isn't a negative to Mercedes but most people look at the C63 as another Mercedes, while with the M3 the same people somehow know its different, not sure exactly why that is. And some people don't care but I gotta say when I drop $75K on a car its nice to get compliments on it! who doesn't like compliments, makes you feel all warm inside

I made the switch to Mercedes-Benz/AMG with the purchase of my '13 W204 C63.
I both respect and enjoy the BMW/M brand. Recently, I have just preferred what AMG is offering. Any dual-role performance-oriented car I buy must be a great road car, first and foremost. The ability to adequately handle track day fun is second.
At some point in the near future I'd like to add a dedicated track car but for now, I'm loving my Benzes and am very much looking forward to driving the W205 C63 (standard LSD, insane 4.0L biturbo V8, class-leading interior/tech, excellent road manners, and understated but sharp looks = a winner in my book).
One reason I love my C63 is because of the sound(s) it makes. In my opinion, a raucous but well-tuned exhaust note contributes greatly to the driving experience.
Do you have any specific questions?

1. I love my M5. It is a very powerful, beautiful, and comfortable.
2. My lease is up in August and I obviously wanted to move into a new model. I looked at the M4/M3 and even test drove one.
3. I love the styling of BMWs (including the M3/4) the problem was my short test drive of the M4 left me missing the V8 of my M5. I know on paper it may be close to the same speed but it just didn't have the thrust of the V8 in my M5. I knew then that the M4/M3 wasn't an option. On top of this two of my buddies may get the M4. I feel that the C63 won't be quite as common.
4. C63s seemed to fit the bill. While the exterior styling may come off as a bit conservative it still looks sexy as hell. The real winner for me was the ENGINE and the SOUND! 503 HP twin turbo V8 with that beastly sound was what set it apart. No matter what the lap times or 0-60 are the C63s will always seem like a bigger beast to me and that is what I want when I spend 80k on a sports car.
5. The Interior is also much better in the C63.
6. Go for the C63 I had the same dilemma you did and after thinking long and hard the C just has more bang for the buck.

When I got the M4, I had every fourth car pull up next to me just to give me the thumbs up -- so I know about the recognition. But at the end of the day, it is all about how we (I) feel with these cars. I'm not a really young guy (in my late 40s) so image is less important to me.
My previous two cars were both BMW sedans (M3 & 550i) so I think part of my regret that I miss having the four doors. My wife has commented on how "awkward" and heavy the coupe doors are compared to my previous 550i. Weird yes but I get her point and have to consider that.
Anyway, thanks again for the comments.
Now, after getting disappointed with my current F30 BMW, I'm ready to go back to Mercedes. Audi, Lexus, etc.. are all meh to me.
I really love the new C class, I was wowed when I looked at it in the dealer. But I'm not sure about the tail lights.
I also saw an S class coupe while I was there. That car just blew me away. If the C class coupe is a smaller version of it, I will buy a C450 or C63 in a heartbeat.

No, I don't think I'm the first to move in this direction (BMW to MB) but I may be one of a few with the new I6 M3/M4 willing to leave the car within 6 to 8 months of its launch for another newly launched vehicle. Thanks again.
The thing is that the C class isn't exactly big. I would at least test drive the F10 M5 if I were in your position. I can't imagine your BMW would mind

Once the AMG Sport models have been established and the "newness" wears off, and once the ranks of real-world GT/GT S and C63/C63 S owners grow, I have a feeling that everything will return to business as usual and we can resume appreciating the newest AMG models for the incredible performance cars that they are.

You guys that keep throwing Audi into the conversation are slightly off base. Audi first introduced their S cars, S4, S6, S8, then is 2004 they released the "S-Line" cars then the RS line came out later.
I quickly realize he had another objective as he quickly pointed out that they have a few 2014 C63s on the lot and "no sense in waiting until November when you can have one now." I quickly pointed to my M4 on the lot and said I'm only interested in moving from that to the new C63S. I really like what they did with the new engine and body style. Plus I need four doors -- I'm not settling for anything less. The conversation quickly went to how the new CLA AMG is a good substitute for my M4.
I thanked him for his time and decided this is not the dealership I want to work with. Before I call BS on this, can someone please enlighten me on what the truth might be for the release date for the C63S? If he is telling the truth, okay...I learned something new today. If not, please provide me the name of a competent dealership here in SoCal that I can work with. I'm willing to work over the phone and may even drive a bit if its worth it -- but I will not be giving the dealer 15 minutes from my home any of my money.
