Question New Owner Break In Poll & Tips

So, like others this will be my first MB car. I've had countless BMWs and in some cases I've followed the break in rules and in other cases I've toed the line. While we're all waiting on our cars, I'd like to hear what break in plan you have and perhaps what tips and advice you care to share with us MB newbies.

1000 mile easy break-in period. Best advice is to put a phonebook under the gas pedal because temptation WILL get the better of you

Here is the proper break in instructions for the 1st 1,000 Miles:

1) No revs over 4,000 RPM's
2) Should not exceed 100 MPH in 7th Gear

You can increase the load after 1,000 miles.

There is a 1,500-1,750 Rear Diff Service on all C63. This a crucial element.

I'm going to go with follow the break in procedure. Id do it just to be on the safe side. I did it with the CLA havnt had any problems.

I mod my cars so I want the engine to warm up before it starts to take a beating lol

It'll probably take me less than 2 weeks. Those two weeks will probably suck but I think it's necessary. If MB is saying to do it. I'd say do it she be on the safe side.

I also recommend a oil change when you do the rear diff service. Just a state of mind really.

Sorry I don't mean to go off on a tangent - quick question for JPMBenz

Previous owner:

He did the 507 differential around 7k
10k service was done around 9k
20k service was done around 14k

I bought the car around 15k - no clue why previous owner didn't do the diff on time at 1.5k
All his services were done at MB dealer

Car drives awesome, no issues that I can see / feel

So the question is do I need to do another diff change or get it inspected for any damage / wear? And how should I continue the service intervals? Should I do another service at 20k or wait till 25k?

Thank you

I truly think your car is fine. The Rear Diff Service does not show in the cluster. The next time the diff fluid needs to be changed is the 4th service or at 40,000 miles. The car will need a service once per year or every 10,000 miles.

My opinion do whatever makes you feel better - no matter what you do someone on here will say your wrong, my only advice is let the car warm up (not aggressive/no high rpm till the oil is up to temp) and do not go 10k on service (especially if you are an aggressive driver). Every AMG I've purchased gets oil changed at 2.5k, 5k, 10k, 15k, 20k, 25k, then usually new AMG lol might be overkill but I've never had an issue with normal/aggressive driving break in either - though I keep my cars 2-2.5 years max.

Thanks JPMBenz and TTA850!

I've had to top up oil twice in 5k but I'm hearing that's normal with spirited driving

Can't wait to see the new W205s in the road - exciting times!

Agreed and same here.

Food for thought: If Break in mattered much, they wouldn't allow ED on most cars (yes I know US W205s are assembled in AL). Every single friend of mine who did ED did so mainly for the autobahn driving. All of them have surpassed 140mph and their cars are fine.

If rumors of the W205 C63 Coupe being built in Germany come true, it will very well be my next ED and guess what I'm gonna do with it.
