Had it done so I will not be happy if I paid for my car to get the service and find out that it physically can't be done. Also, if its not needed, the math says it might be cheaper to pay out of pocket for maintenance services instead of getting PPM. I thought it was close to break even with the rear axle service added to PPM.

By the way, what does "sealed" mean? Are they saying it can't be accessed at all? Thanks.

Mine for sure was done. I had to wait an extra day with a loaner since my dealer didn't have the amount of gear oil in stock. Why would they charge me and lie if no work was done?

I would like MB AMG to give us a definitive answer on this as my car is due in a few days and I want to do the right thing.
Summarize:
1. 4 or 5 five posters claim they had it done but none have seen it actually done?
2. Several dealers say it is needed
3. Several dealers say it is not needed
4.One e-mailed AMG and was told it is needed
5. One received answer from tech team (AMG?)and was told it was a sealed unit and could not be done.
6. It is in maintenance manual
7.It is in the 2016 owners manual that MB USA e-mailed me as the one online does not have all the AMG info.
8. One AMG sales person says it is needed.
9. UK manual says it is needed.
10. Sticker on windshield says it is needed.
11. One says it is needed but not till 30k

A mess at best. If sealed how did 4 guys get it done? Why in manuals and sticker if not needed? Where are dealers saying not to do it getting their info?

This should not be this big of deal.!!!!!!!

First of all this is not a big deal if you understand how an LSD works. If you don't then I understand.

Second, what in the world does #1 mean? Are you implying that everyone is lied to? Even the one (me) who has a receipt and a swipe of my credit card that has the transaction documented for a diff oil change?

Lastly, of course it's sealed. Otherwise it would leak. lol. Jokes aside, diff oil service is listed on the maintenance schedule, so why would it not be serviceable.

Take a deep breath and relax. Its clearly stated on the MBUSA site in the maintenance part. Take it to your Dealer and show them. If they refuse to do it then take it somewhere else.

My window sticker has it listed as things to do for break in period. That is enough for me. I'm having it done unless I hear otherwise.

It sure does. In the windshield with the standard break in instructions. Is this the smoking gun we were looking for?

Had the same discussion with my local UK dealer this week as I am considering purchasing the service package and was clarifying whether this included the diff oil service.

The first reply was that no diff oil service is due - I mentioned the sticker on the windscreen and they said it was a generic sticker and that no service is due for my car.

I asked them to please double check again - they then replied that they were incorrect, the service is indeed due but it will be done FOC as it will be covered by MB Warranty?!

I clarified again that this would be done free of charge when it is due, and they have said yes - happy days!

Lol. The confusion level from MB on this is through the stratosphere. Causing their customers to scatter in panic.

People, get your LSD oil changed after the first couple thousand break-in miles. It's just that simple.

It needs it on both the S and non S models.

I had it done and watched them do it, it is not sealed, there is a drain plug and a fill plug.

I really don't understand the confusion the dealers are introducing into this issue. Dumb!

thanks for that as it was very hard to believe that it was Sealed.
With this and the sticker and the book any lingering doubt is gone.

My 2016 came with a window sticker that says it must be changed after 1850 miles, so I don't think the dealer will be arguing.

That's actually the problem -- All cars (including the MY15) have that sticker inside on the driver side windshield.

A sealed unit? What a crock! Are they suggesting that one would NEVER change the diff fluid. Lubricants don't last forever. There is not a fluid in the vehicle that doesn't get replaced at some point, they all degrade over time.

Many of these dealer service advisers are so poorly trained and lazy to check facts. Just imagine what other stupid bad advice they provide non auto savvy clients.

Yes there are also many very competent ones and the challenge is to sort through and choose to deal with the good ones. It's not that hard, just escalate to the service manager and ask to consult directly with the AMG tech.

It's like everything else in life, choose expertise and don't settle for crap.

I just had my diff service completed this past week on my C63S Ed1 and it was covered as part of PPM.

All 205 C63's require the service per the AMG PL. If the dealer says otherwise don't listen to them and have them do the service.

After getting very angry with my dealer they finally agreed it does need doing after checking with engineering team in Germany! I have told them they need to speak to MB customer services in the UK to tell them to stop giving out incorrect info also.

Were they irritated because you purchased a maintenance agreement meaning they would foot the bill? Or were you paying out of pocket (like I did).

Hard to imagine them getting turned around the axle if you're paying. Just curious.

I imagine you're right and were more annoyed at having to do it on the maintenance plan, but I also think they just genuinely didn't know it needed doing.
