Rear Axle Oil Change No Longer Needed at 2K?
#78
I have a 2016 C63s and another forum member went to my dealer and got almost the exact same car. Yesterday he was supposed to go and pick it up but, the Dealer called him and said he couldn't release the car until they completed the recall campaign. When asked what it was he said it was the differential plug.
So, I am assuming it is all 2016 C63s models.

Bad news folks. The differential plug that they are talking about is not the drain plug. It's actually an electronic plug that has a seal on it. Or supposed to have a seal. That's what they're supposed to check for. I just got my fluid replaced on Friday. And they showed me the recall information. It cost me around $250. I'll scan the information for everyone to see. My biggest concern now is they charged me for two liters of fluid. And I'm not sure whether they put in the right fluid and 2 is it the right amount? Another poster for charged for 3. I don't see from any manual how much fluid LSD is supposed to take in. And I found nowhere does it state what kind of fluid it is either....annoying.

Ok, so here is the "summary" description of the Recall. Note it states "LOCK DIFF PLUG". Not much there, right? The reality of it is, it's actually a "CONNECTOR" plug vs. an oil plug. Here's the description of the Recall #2016020009
WHERE does it say that it must be 3 liters? This has me worried since my invoice says they only used 2 liters.
Any help on an official source?

I had my differential service done today. I was a bit ahead on mileage, right at 1800. But I might drive it back north and wanted to get this done. SA checked for open recalls or campaign and none were found. At least, my vin. #. Mine is a 2016. Dealership was slammed, but they got me in and back on the road in a short while. All seemed to go seamlessly, hope there no further issues. Other than rattles, the car has run strong. Rattles seem to be road, temp, and humidity sensitive. As I don't always have them. When I do, just push the loud peddle and I make them go away. My paperwork showed 3 liters by the way.

Picked up mine after 2 days of waiting for parts to arrive. Here is the thing I wasn't charged for rear axle oil change, service advisor said it was covered by MB and was necessary service since MB puts different oil from the factory for break in process. Had to pay for engine oil/filter change only, differential plug had to be replaced as well per recall as well as my rocker panel that start coming off on the passenger side.

I just did my 1850 mile rear diff oil change and I was astounded when I received my bill. $386 to change the oil. 3 Quarts for $96 and rest in labor and tax. 2 Hours labor, man was I pissed..

Makes me think that they could have change only axle oil and no engine oil since it's not mandatory but I insisted anyway. Description of work is on the receipt and all is there, do you think they could cut the corners? Its a big dealer btw.

Can you tell me how many quarts of eLSD oil they put in? They used 2 quarts for me, but it appears 3 quarts for others.

Seems most are 3 as mine was and if they put 3 in and it did not run out maybe yours is low -if they really did put in 2. I would see the dealer soon.

Must be the greenwich tax! I quoted 1 hr of labor from both hartford and north haven stealerships...

Guys the same happened back in 2009 when the W204 C63 got a LSD and the 1850 mile sticker. Some dealers charged for it, some did it as warranty and some as prepaid ( not a mbusa thing then) nonetheless all variations were due to lack of understanding and proper communication. After a couple years everybody was on the same page and as far as I can remember it was only covered w prepaid service.
Dealers that cover it but don't get paid for it from mbusa charge so much for other things that break even.

I just called my dealership here in ATL and was quoted $120 for the service (1 hr 15 mins). This price may not include the cost for oil. I'll let y'all know next week - having it done on Wednesday.

My receipt didn't say anything about quantity of oil, just parts numbers and yes plug has to be cured on some kind of adhesive all done under warranty.
All I paid is for oil change which costed me $160.

Ha! So it seems that my dealer is a lot more "efficient" than everyone else's is.... Most of you got 3 liters to fill the eLSD. Mine used 2 liters - which made me think they UNDER filled it. It turns out from MBUSA via the AMG Lounge that the eLSD capacity is only 1.2 liters... so go figure. See below.
