Standard vs Performance exhaust

Hi
Has anyone compared which one of the two is the quietest on the road??
I want to drive a quiet car in comfort mode in town whenever i choose without drawing attention.
Thanx

I have the perf exhaust... and in quiet mode it is quite tame. Can't comment on the regular version.

I agree--the performance exhaust not opened is reasonably quite and in sport + it sounds wonderful.

PE not-opened is quieter than my wifes W204 C63 if that helps.

I posted this on another thread but I will do it again here.

Standard Exhaust - Louder at initial startup then the PE Exhaust to let you know it's a AMG. It has the old school "bark" the C63 is know for. Under load it is quiet yet noisy.

PE Exhaust - Quieter at startup even with the flaps over. However, under load it is loud and the downshifts in S, S+, and R are insane.

Thanks for the input.JPMBenz or someone else under load you reckon standard or performance is quieter when flaps are closed?

Well there are no flaps on the standard exhaust. So, under load with the PE exhaust closed I would say the PE exhaust is slightly louder.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear

My wife refuses to ride in a 204 series C63 as it just puts her off with the constant too loud exhaust noise level, the quieter note and adjustability of this new 205 series C63 should solve that problem for me, keep it quiet when riding with her or other passengers, open it up loud and angry when I'm riding alone

I have a test drive in a new W205 C63 sedan lined up soon so I'll be able to judge all of this for myself, hopefully what all of you have stated above is indeed the case

P.S JP - any info on so called noise insulating glass panel/s option I've heard about elsewhere ??? if such a thing exists it should further insulate the cabin from outside noise and is something I would definitely opt for...

I remember reading somewhere recently (don't know the exact article off the top of my head) that the standard exhaust does have a single "dynamic" flap that ties to both the mode you are in and the load that the car is under.

Yes, the noise insulated glass is only available on the GLE SUV & E63 at this time. It reduces the outside noise about 20%.

I believe it only has 1 flap where the PE has 3 flaps.

The PE only open in Sport+ and Race unless you push the button to open them in Comfort or Sport.

Its the same.
When you drive on the highway in comfort mode with the pe exhaust switched off you can barely hear it.

Hiw about the c43

I'm curious if the crackle and pop are gone on the c43(sedan) unless you add the amg performance exhaust option. On the c450, if the car is on sport+, the exhaust will have the crackle and pop. Is that still the case on the new c43?

I'm 99% sure the standard exhaust will still have crackle and pop... The performance exhaust gives you more control as you can open up the valves in say comfort or eco mode and make things louder as the standard is tied to the dynamic mode you are in.

I had a 2016 C63s without the performance exhaust. I just got a 2017 C63s WITH the performance exhaust and in my opinion it is as follows:
PE Closed<Standard<PE Open

Does anybody know if the Std Exhaust on the C43 still has the exhaust button on the console?

I was at a dealer in Canada this past week and they had a few C43's and I asked them to start one up. It had the button on the console, but it didn't seem to do much and the sales guy said it was the PE but the rims didn't match the AMG drivers package that are bundled with the PE so I figure he was wrong, but it still had the button.

The Std exhaust does not have the button. Depending on how they spec'ed the car, the rims may not be the ones that come standard with the AMG drivers package, I have the package but opted for different rims.

Interesting, the car didn't seem any louder in Sport+ with the button on, in fact pushing the button didn't seem to make any difference.

This particular car also didn't crackle/pop off throttle when the sales guy ripped it up and down the parking lot.
