sorry does the weistec or cmc airfilter give better performance with oem ecu?
I think any of the options might get you 3-4HP, tops. On the W204, the stock airbox covers on the US-spec C63 were very restrictive, plus the OEM setup had supplementary charcoal filters. Swapping out the US-spec airboxes for Rest-of-World covers, and installing aFE/K&N/Weistec filters was good for about 10HP. Here on the W205, it's a straight filter swap, and even with the claims of "higher volume of air due to shorter filters" I'd say 4HP is about the max you could expect.

If somehow oil got into the intercooler, it would pool at the bottom and at worst give a negligible impediment to airflow. Oil in the intercooler isn't a concern. Some people have voiced concerns about oiled filters like K&N prematurely fouling things like MAF sensors. There are a number of variables that can affect this, such as intake design, quantity of oil applied, etc. Since K&N doesn't seem to currently make a filter for the M177, I don't think anyone can answer this for sure, though I'd personally lean toward the "don't dump an entire bottle of re-oiling solution on the filter and you'll be fine" club.

jumping in on this thread 2 years late, but wanted to drop some insight i picked up from my last couple of BMWs.
There was a great thread floating around on the m3 boards about a garage that dynoed an m3 having some minor mods done. at one point, they dynoed the car with stock filters, then completely removed the filter for a 2nd reading (should bump up HP at least a smidge being that airflow is completely unrestricted). Popped same HP/Torque readings back to back.....
hence moral of the story is youre paying 200$ for a whooshing sound (if that) for these drop in filters

Yup, I think it's all in the tuning... Period. The car will do what it's tuned to do, and OEM tunes have enough tolerance built in to account for increased or slightly decreased airflow.
However Weistec always respond with he same answer, its in development cannot give you a release date or price. Thats been the story for the past 6 months. Frustrating to show a product and then tell us its not available.
Pretty aggressive HP gain claims there on the UPD intake kit. Any data/dyno to back that up? I'm interested just want to see some very convincing proof. FYI I travel to Houston a lot. I'd be willing to test do a before and after dyno test with your setup.

UPD intake kit installed. Yes I know we want dyno numbers and videos. I don't have either as I just installed the UPD set up but I can report without question confirmation that this setup makes a huge difference!
This is exactly what I needed - AIR FLOW- With all my mods done EC turbos, inter cooler, down pipes and tune this was the missing link. Crazy difference in throttle response. It's alive! Highly recommend and so pleased with results!
