C63S Rear Diff problems

2016 C63S
10,000 Miles
Anyone having winding noises or clicking noises at all from the rear diff? Car is driven hard (like they are made for). Took car to local MB dealership and the diagnosed as needed a new rear diff. They are giving me a headache now stating that the rear diff is completely torn apart inside and the car is undriveable... yet 2 weeks ago before they ordered my rear they stated that the car could be driven fine just not hard until the rear came in. I opted to just leave the car at MB until it is completely fixed. Service manager stated the issue was covered under warranty two weeks ago. They called today and stated the fix will e upwards up $8,000 and they will not be covering it.
Input... and help would be great! Thank you!

Just had mine serviced today. The fluid replaced at 1875 mile run in service. Got to be more here. Very scary to hear this. This ought to be interesting.

Where are you located?
What did he say when you asked why the change from 2 weeks ago?

Located in PA
The only thing they mentioned is because I run the car hard... which the car should be breaking like that when it is ran hard. The cars are built to run hard.
I have no done anything crazy at all to the car other than taking it to the track which would not have any sort of negative affects to the car if they are built properly.

We also had the car on the dyno as well and maxed out top speed... which also should not be an issue what so ever.

There is not a single modification on the car at all.

I will update when the service manager gets back to me... But if this is how MB treats their AMG customers... I will be switching back to BMW M or Lamborghini, because this is insane.

Do they want to baby a 500 HP car? Why make it 500 hp if they want it to be treated like a grocery-getter.....

bmuelz: I have no dog in this fight but, you know what kind of wear racing a car on the track does to the components on a vehicle? This isn't a race car, it is a road car.

Running a car at 175mph on a dyno isn't what the car was meant to do either. I have been told countless times by dyno guys that doing it on a highway isn't the same as on a dyno. That heavy steel drum that spins just beats the sh-it out of the differential and transmission.

Your first mistake was leaving it at the dealership. That gave them ample time and carte blanche to get it up on a lift an have half a dozen guys look at it and diagnose how it happened. Had you brought it home and parked it until the parts came in you probably wouldn't be in this dilemma.

They must know you have driven this car hard. Dare I say more than hard? There must be some indication of the "abuse". Maybe chipped tires from cornering hard or something else that was a tip off for them.

It should definitely be covered under warranty, unless there is something in the warranty that absolves them of responsibility if the car is raced on a racetrack. I have no idea what it says but, I do know that at 10k miles they should cover anything mechanically related.

Luckily they are covering it. The reason they are covering it which I did find out today is that the 1850 miles service sticker and the 1000 mile break in period sticker was taken off of the windshield by one of their technicians. No idea how they found this out but luckily they found that out. So the fluid that they put in the rear diff for break was never changed out which it should have been at 1850 miles. They gave me no notice of this required service at all when i purchased the car.

So thankfully they are covering it.

I will still be going to the track though for sure. I didn't buy a $100,000 500hp car to not drive it hard... lol

Glad they took care of it. Was definitely on them. My service advisor at first told me I wasn't due for the rear diff service, but after I contacted him again and asked him to look into it again I was due and a bit over. He said if I didn't bring it in by 3k miles my warranty would've been voided. Keep driving hard, that's what the car is meant for.
