Wheel & Tire Coverage

Does anyone have any experience with any third-party wheel & tire protection coverage? Also, not sure if the local MB dealer would sell the one they offer at any point or if it has to be at a specific time (when car is purchased, etc)?

its a waste of money IMO, most dealers have an alloy wheel repair guy who hacks them to make them look better - not a huge fan of wheel repair, and very rarely will they replace. wheel repair costs them 75-125 - replacement costs them wayyyyyy more

I have had very different experience than that. Had a BMW 550 that I ended up spending at least $5k on replacing wheels and tires. Having learned my lesson I got the coverage when I bought my C450 and it's paid for itself at least twice over now. In process of purchasing a C63 and now that I've realized it's a massive value I'd like to get it again, but not sure of the options since it's a used car I'm not purchasing from a MB dealer.

I understand, Im not as familiar with who offers aftermarket coverage. My point is, theyre very rarely replacing wheels. They repair repair repair...even 2 tone and polished wheels can be repaired.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Certainly have had several repairs, but have also had them replace 2 wheels so it's saved me a ton of money.

sounds like you damage your rims a lot. Get one with the 360 camera and save yourself money.

Was it easy to have the rims replaced rather than repaired?

I wouldn't say that it was easy or hard. I didn't request it or have to push for it. They just made the determination that the wheel should be replaced rather than repaired.

I highly recommend purchasing tires from tire rack.com. They have a wheel warranty that basically is the same as any 3rd party warranty. [FOR TIRES], not for the rim.

Do they replace tires which have gone bald

My dealership called me and told that 1 of my wheel has gone bald and told me to get a new one.

Does having the wheel and tire coverage not cover tires which are bald?

Also, when I have a flat tire, will they replace with new tire?

I purchased the rim and tire protection ("RTP") from MB directly on a former lease. I actually hit the curb kinda bad driving around town (sharp turns, high curbs). It was the worst I had ever curbed my rims in my entire life. I actually felt the car "lift" a little bit.

I took some metal clean off the rim.

Well, when I turned the lease in, they were still sending me automatic emails about the procedures done to the car. Apparently, they just charged about $150 to repair each rim even though 3 rims were not even damaged. Even "repairing" the 4 wheels was well below the maximum coverage for the RTP. You'd have to completely destroy a whole rim and tire for it to even be close to the maximum coverage amount. Unless you're gonna go "drifting" or something, I think the average person with average damage would save money by just paying out of pocket.
