Has dealer every called to pay $$$ to you to diagnosis your vehicle
So one of the dealers in my area called me today and asked if I could bring in my vehicle and they would pay me $300 to run some diagnostics on it? Has that ever happened to anyone and why would they need to do this?

They may want to compile a database of your vehicle's control unit EEPROM dumps. Once they have a full EEPROM dump of each control unit, tehy can hexedit & tailor them to other VINs then use these modified dumps to custom flash replacement control units without having to connect to mothership (Daimler-aftermarket) to get latest files from Germany. It's a cost-cutting measure that would save them money & customers would never know the difference.

I wonder why they wouldn't use one off the lot? If I bring it in for service, I guess they could do it anyways without me knowing. I also why they wouldn't do another one that just came in for service. I'm sure there are a few.
I guess there is a cost for them to get it in Germany?

I was contacted by MBUSA a couple of years ago via a letter asking me to lend them my E63 for ?one week for some types of EPA emission testing. They would flatbed an equivalent or similar loaner MB vehicle for me to use while they flatbed my car to facility for testing. My E63 would have a full tank of gas upon return without more than ?50 additional miles on the odometer with most of the miles on an indoor rollers. The letter stated they have sent out similar letters to owners around the Michigan area. I think there might have been a monetary compensation on top of that. Of course, I had relocated when I received the forwarded letter but I wrote that I was located at another region of the country at the time if they're interested.

I suspect their test may involve driving it and/or dynoing it. I initially I thought it is an interview. I was offered $500. I called to accept but left them a message. They have not called back. I will not leave my car with them even though its a lease!
