yeah this is very wrong.
you must bring the car to a shop. they are two routes to pull it out as it is tucked over by the passanger side wheel well. they can extract it from the top by removing the coolant res. or the bottom that requires other parts to be removed. its about 4-6 hours of labor to have it removed and reinstalled.

if you are going to do both then this is your best bet. you can get it done in one shot and save yourself alot on labor. they can pull the ECU very easily if they drop the motor for the DP(which you need to do if you dont want to cut the OEM ones)
where atre you located

And I want to give a shout out to Golan from AutoTalent for helping me get some great downpipes. I can highly recommend them.

Here you go, Milan (from AMR), though I think this stuff gets done after you've arranged something with whomever - Eurocharged, RennTECH, AMR, etc: http://shop.amrperformance.com/2016/...removal-guide/

is it possible to buy another ECU and tune that? - Keeping the original as it is?

Not the most feasible option, I know but want to check all possibilities.

Also, if anyone has rough costs buying a new ECU for this car.

Thanks!

I have looked into this a few months back. I found a few dealerships online selling an ecu for about 800.00, although a recent google search does not show them for sale any more.

You then need to bring the car to the dealership and have them code the ECU to your car.

I liked the idea of having a second ecu rather than mailing my ECU somewhere and not being able to drive the car.

I don't like the idea of coding it to your car at a MB dealership. They will ask why I need a second ECU.

would you have to code the ECU each time you made the switch or could you have 2 ECU paired at the same time so it would just involve changing it out when you wanted.

i also did not want to take the chance of mailing my ECU. also i dont have a second car to drive so i would have had to incur rental car expenses on top of overnight shipping back and forth. I have actually talked to someone who had the ECU come back cracked and had to get an entire new one. i believe the tuner covered the cost but it was not a easy situation for him

this is why i found someone local that was able to do the entire thing in one day. was able to drop it off the night before. and uber straight from work the next day.

Creating a 2nd ECU is not possible. In order to activate the 2nd ECU they have to transfer all the data from the first into it. It will not activate without it. This is what my dealer has told me and others. Albeit there's 1 or 2 M157 guys in Europe who claim otherwise but unless you have a dealer who's willing to do this for you and know they are breaking the rules. Good luck with that!

Someone needs to make a relocation kit lol, it would make future removal of ecu much easier.

I've heard rumors of a shop here doing it. I know a member here has it.

The original tuning company i went with cracked the chip on my ecu resulting in me needing to get a new one which was approx 1200$ and i had a mbtech at a shop transfer the data over to the new ecu and got it tuned elsewhere.

I am unsure about coding it each time. I stopped researching it because I live not far from you and will be getting my car tuned at the same shop as yourself.
