2017 C 63 Coupe Rear Bumper Bump removal Before and After
Took delivery of my C63 coupe and after looking at the rear bumper bumps for 2 days, they had to go. These 2 rear covers are just that. Once removed they were full of a foam of the same shape that falls out leaving 2 huge hole in the rear bumper. $800 later looks like a different car !!!

Looks great! Very happy to see there isn't any reinforcement sticking out that needs to be cut. Makes it a relatively easy bondo job to delete them... definitely something I'm going to consider

The body shop cut off the bump cover ends to them as filler for the bumper.
I also ordered the Coupe w/o rear badges and left the side ones.. Love the clean look !!!
Saw this on a S coupe at the dealer Car guys know what car it is!

They did design it like this from the get-go. Federal regulations in the US and Canada make these mandatory to have. Just look at the beautiful models that roll of the showroom floors in Europe.

A reply to a couple of questions .
Cost was $800. Took 3 days
The rear bumper was removed and resprayed.
Everything looks factory with a lifetime warranty from the repair company.
These 2 bumps will not stop anything. When removed a piece of Styrofoam fell out.
What a joke!
Why do the sedans not have them.
If to to meet US regulations, what a terrible design.

Person you're referring to was 1 in 1,000,000 if you ask me.

It was in a parking lot. Someone backed up into his rear bumper, hence the reason for the (stupid) regulation. Doesn't require the sun and stars to line up for something like that to occur. I wholeheartedly agree that the car looks better without those warts, but to say they don't serve a purpose is shortsighted, imo.

Valid point, not gonna argue against it just for the sake of arguing haha. As a side note, I've noticed that A LOT of other vehicles have these bumper guards as well. I've seen them on many different vehicles in my area, from vans to trucks (although they aren't as noticeable).

I used to build the car on mercedes website and they never had this bump, but then I saw one in real life and I swear the first thing I noticed were those bumps .. i was like I've never seen them .. where did those come from?
but again I 100% agree that they look better without them butttt ... they are there because most of the times u get hit from the back by another car so they miiightttt be able to do something .. again i prefer mine without them !!
