What actually triggers cruising?

I'm talking about when you release the gas, the car shifts itself to neutral (little blue sailboat icon). I have no idea what actually triggers it. Sometimes it's on after prolonged driving but sometimes it's on 5 min after engine switched on.

On the side note, how to turn it off?

Interesting. I didn't realise the AMG Speed-shift had that feature. Normally in Comfort mode.

It requires:
  • Everything at operating temperatures
  • Comfort mode
  • Auto start/stop on
  • Vehicle speed above 27mph
  • Going in a forward gear

Apparently it's called gliding. I remember reading about it in the manual. You have to be in comfort mode and going between a certain speed. Believe it's 25- 65. Release the gas in a "coasting" situation. It decouples the trans to save fuel

Dasani beat me to it.

Actually, it is called "sailing". Hence the sail boat icon.

another reason I wish the auto start/stop was not on these cars. I hate how the sailing feature feels going in an out of gear on the highway. Can't be good for the tranny either.

Can't you just shut off auto start/stop?

Yea I don't really understand all the auto start/stop complaints. It's only active in comfort mode, who's driving a 63s in comfort mode, I wanna go fast!

I'm surprised you feel the switch. While I've only had the car do it a few times to me, I didn't notice the transition.

In terms of how good it might be for the trans, it's designed this way so I'm sure it will be just fine.

Well I think I'm more sensitive then. I could definitely feel the switch from D to sailing. It's like a surge (ever so slightly). Then when the tranny engages back to D, I felt a slight hold back. I don't think it's gonna save too much fuel. I don't really like this feature.

Then why not drive in Sport or Sport + or simply hit the autostart button to turn it off and the feature will be disabled.
