Secondary Cat delete on C63s Perf Exhaust
#76
I agree with this. I recall seeing a video about the performance exhaust and they were so detailed in their R&D to get the sound right, even testing the exact number of holes drilled in one of the internal muffler pipes (I believe is was 9 holes).
The stock catback is pretty much perfect, I wouldn't mess with the rear boxes. If anything, delete the secondary cat and you have perfection through an OEM tuned exhaust.

Gutting was just far easier than replacing. they cut the down pipe at the bottom of the car and took it off where the clamp goes.. then gutted everything out. then welded the original pipe back together and put clamp back on too.

Just had mine removed and it sounds GREAAAT! No drone. About 25% louder. Backfires sound like bombs are going off .
Best $225 spent. Others have paid less, but supposedly Shop used TIG welding instead of MIG welding, which takes longer with better results?
Video clip doesn't reproduce sound well.

I just picked up the car today and it's raining, so didn't get to play around too much. I never drive with the valves closed, so it's hard for me to tell. I'll drive w the valves closed tomorrow.

Yo, c63sed1, thanks for the pics.
Sanch, looking forward to your report.
Mines in the shop getting chrome delete right now. This is next on my list.
Just wanted to ask you guys again...
Any chance this mod reduces power/horsepower/torque?
Thanks

I haven't heard of any complaints. I've had mine done for a day now. To me, it's a calculated risk. It's relatively non invasive mod w low risk and low cost, w high return in terms of satisfaction. And it's reversible if necessary. I'm willing to take that miniscule risk.

2014 Audi RS7 (yes and no power lost- pulled two resonators our here)
I have spoke with many experienced tuners and techs in the Benz world; the resonator delete does not affect power and I doubt the secondary cat here will be an issue either. Im definitely going to do this on the C63S but I need to get up to muffler shop in Long Beach first (they did all the above cars).

Technically I have done a lot of resonator deletes but our cars (C63S) do not have resonators by title. But in a sense, the same product is being removed as its post header and the CEL sensor triggers are prior. On the following cars I have done a resonator delete with no issues to power/tq and just a decent increase in sound, burble, fires. Now keep in mind, these parts were probably more restrictive in nature than what we are all talking about here so the sound gains were more on the cars below:

Are you still thinking about doing this mod on your C63S, Vic?

Anyone who is removing secondary cats and aren't tuned, are you throwing the cels and getting a check light?
