Bad day
Around here there are dozens of rim shops that for about $150-200 per wheel will weld, lathe and refinish each rim.
I have made the decision to wait until I change all 4 tires in about 3 months and do them all at that time.
Sucks but, its part of driving..
I wouldn't really care but, MB requires the rims to have NO rash when returned, so if you dont buy the Insurance then you are out of pocket when you turn the car in..
It is a scam for sure. They charge you to have them repaired when turning the car in, but the insurance eliminates your responsibility.
The insurance only pays for major dents, tire blowouts, etc.. But, with the price of these tires and the cost to repair before turning in, $1000 is a bargain..

However, there is hope. Took mine to a local shop. Charged me $100 for the fix + $20 mount/balance. The polished finish is very difficult to match, but you have to be up close and stare to notice. I'm overall happy with the outcome.

I've never curbed my wheels in 15 years of driving. Learn how to drive.
Constant beating, expansion and contraction of cracks and potholes from rain, ice, melting, then heat compounded with repair crews that suck and are lazy and slow and its like driving a slalom course every day.
I am aware that some of the worlds greatest drivers come from Utah and Abu Dhabi, thats a fact you can find on wikipedia.
When you have roads like in the UAE that are paved like glass and maintained and roads in Utah where 3 cars drive in a week and its easy to drive for 15 years with no damage.
We need YOU to teach us how to drive... Hysterical.
And to help others on the forum, I would highly recommend the wheel and tire insurance, if not through MB, at least get tire insurance through tire rack when you purchase new tires. ESPECIALLY if you're in the NY/NJ area -- oh my god those roads are bad. I got at least 5 brand new tires on my e92 ($300/tire) and bent 3 rims (which can rarely be fixed perfectly, if at all, depending on the rim material -- I tried having mine repaired by several different people and they were all terrible, what a waste of money) and had scratches (not just curb rash, but scratches from all that damn gravel and salt rocks they leave on the road).
Now that I live in warmer climates, it probably won't be as bad, but there is also the convenience of the insurance. You never have to worry about accidentally damaging the rims, it's one less expense you have to account for in the future budget, you don't have to be worried about spending $300 to fix your wheel have it come back anything less than perfect (and spend time finding that guy -- good wheel repair is hard to find), and through MB you just bring your car to them, get a nice loaner, go about your business, and pick up your car when it's all back to new! I mean, $30/mo for that is TOTALLY worth it for me, though I realize maybe not for everybody.

There must be some sort of limit on cosmetic damage you can claim. If I scrape my rim once a month, can I go back to MB to fix the same rim month after month for 36 months?
I dont have the contract to read it but, if it covers cosmetic damage as well then its a real no brainer depending on the cost of the package...

I have it on my BMW and they only offer a finite number of repairs over the lifetime of my protection package (I think they said it was 4?). If MB does offer it, I'm willing to bet they have some stipulation like that as well.
That said, curb rash is cosmetic damage, so should be included -- and as I stated before, I did confirm that curb rash specifically would be covered, so if your dealership says otherwise, I would argue. It is technically "cosmetic damage" which is the wording used in the agreement.

This thread is very useful as most of us will encounter this problem at some stage.
You're so awesome. You must just look for threads to Sh$t on. I've seen you do it to numerous ones. Chill out. If you don't have anything nice or helpful, move on or buy a BMW.

2 weeks ago, I was switching lanes on the I-10 late at night when something hit my freshly powder-coated wheel. Guess what? **** happens. I don't remember ever curbing a wheel while parking but you can't prevent potholes or debris, especially when it's dark out there.
The thing is that for some reason, dealer wanted $3200 for the wheel and tire protection package in finance. Given that the dealers outsource the work to the cheapest people they find anyways, I much rather pay $100 per instance of curb rash or wait until it gets bad to have it fixed - either way, I don't think I would have EVER recouped $3200.
Bought the package in finance - had to go through plenty of paperwork to have the $3200 refunded in the following month.
I agree with sean on this one
