Testing C63s AMG

Hi all!

I asked you about this car weeks ago, a bit worried because of the RWD. It would be my first rear and always have driven AWD...I own now an RS5

Well, I tested yesterday (although was not the S). It was raining....the car is amazing, the sound, the driving everything. But omg, it is really scary on wet conditions, I mean it skids so easaly even in straight way. It is true I was testing it but was hoping to be a bit less "nervous"

Still thinking on getting one though

Just wanted to share my experience with you

Pic of the one I drove

That's part of the fun!

Since you've come from AWD it's just a matter of getting used to the difference in grip and learning to control the throttle to make sure the rear isn't kicking out all the time. Take it easy with the acceleration especially in bad weather.

To be honest I've found that the traction control and the e-diff are life savers when the back does kick out (they bring the car back in line pretty quickly).

Thanks for sharing your experience! You won't regret it if you seal the deal on one

I managed to get the back end out within 3 minutes of starting the test drive, and that was in the dry

Yes, I have to admit it was also quite fun!

Thanks for your answer

Not to hijack the thread, but in your opinion, how did the build quality seem compared to the RS5? My 07 S4 DTM had better build quality than my 09 C63, and my next car will be a C43 or RS5...

What's the climate like where you are from? Coming from a W204, can't say I'd recommend one to anyone living anywhere that receives substantial rainfall.

A C43 and a S5 would be the proper comparison and not a RS5.

How is that relevant? All I said is that my next car will likely be either a C43 or RS5.

I would say both are at very similar level. I live in Spain, no much rain around here..

If you go for a RS5 know that new version is about to be released, with a 3.0 Turbo V6...

Yep! It's too bad the 63 isn't AWD. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, i agree! They have it on the E class amg's, but never on the C... I've always wondered about that...

If the C63s was AWD I would have already bought it...

RWD is much more fun. Sliding and drifting.

Maybe you should test drive a C63 S model if possible. I noticed much more stability in the S version, probably because of e-diff.

This is very interesting point. So the C63 i tasted does not have the electronic differential?

Thanks

My B5 S4 would spin in the wet and dry even with AWD, and that was usually the most enjoyable part of driving it... then again, it had +200 HP more than the C63S

The C63S isn't my first RWD car, but I owned my Audi for 11 years, and the transition from AWD to a big HP RWD car can be jarring if you're not ready. Just remember that the pedal isn't a binary on/off switch.

The C63 comes with a mechanical diff (compared to the C63S's e-diff which theoretically responds much faster). But don't think that that's going to drastically put the power down better.

Ok I understand. It will improve traction but still need to be careful with the pedal...

Precisely the reason to buy this car! i have snows on my 63S for 5 months of the year and some days have to take the F150 in to the office....this is my 3rd C63 and they are undoubtedly the worst car for winter you could by, but i wouldn't change it for the world! do plan on making friends with your tire shop, however! you'll be going through a few sets of rears in the warm/dry periods of driving....but smiling all the way! good luck!
