Question Curb weight question

I've seen conflicting reports of the c63/c63s curb weight. Some third-party reviews say 3800lb, but mbusa.com says 4074lb. Does anyone have the authoritative answer?

While we're on the topic of weight, is there a weight difference between the c63 and c63s?

These numbers are straight from the dealer ordering guide for the sedans:

C63 curb weight is 3,829

C63S curb weight is 3,856

Ahh, maybe that's the confusion. I'm specifically interested in the coupe -- is that the 4074?

Thanks.

You rock, thanks. That is where the discrepancy is coming from.

Any thoughts on why coupe is 200lbs heavier than the sedan?

front seat hardware may be heavier to accommodate passengers getting in the back; chassis may be beefed up as well to accommodate the coupes windows

Also, at least in the US, the Coupe comes standard with the panorama roof whereas the sedan does not. From numbers quoted in places throughout this forum and in other places I've read, the panorama roof adds 100-150 lbs to the weight of the car.

The 3,8xx lb number for the sedan quoted above is for one equipped without the panorama roof. Add 100-150 lbs to that to make an apples to apples comparison with the quoted coupe weight figure.

According to Mercedes Press Center, the coupe is heavier than the sedan and as heavy as the station wagon, as its structure is identical to the convertible. To meet all stiffness requirements for the vert, they had to reinforce everything, which increases the curb weight.

Btw.: the coefficient of drag is also not as good as in the sedan. Therefore the coupe should be a bit slower than the sedan, especially at higher speeds.

You forget the bigger tires on the coupe.

This is great info. Here's what we've got so far:

c63s Sedan base weight: 3856 lb
c63s Coupe base base: 4096 lb

If we add the panorama roof to even things out between similarly spec'd cars, the weight difference becomes 140 lbs ... still a lot.

Additional weight due to:
* Larger tires
* Extra chassis reinforcement to support convertible
* Panorama roof included in coupe's curb weight (covered above)

I suspect there may be more things standard in the coupe but not sedan that influence the weight difference. 140 is a lot and the coupe is actually smaller so should have some gains from that.
