Black Ash Wood Cracking?

Hi all,

I have a 2017 C63S Coupe with the Black Ash Wood center console and now that it's getting sunny it appears that the wood has thin cracks everywhere. In the photo you can see the thin white cracks going horizontally over most of the main part of the console. I wanted to check with you guys to see if anyone else is experiencing this or if it is normal for this trim. MB told me it's how it's supposed to be but it wasn't my typical service person and he seemed much more disinterested in my concerns than my normal adviser.

A friend of mine has the same trim on a C43 and his looks fine. It's not supposed to do that.

The funny thing is I live in Pittsburgh PA (nothing like Texas or Florida where you get tons of sun). I picked up the car October 31st and have had it until now. It hasn't gotten over 70 since then!

Who knows. I have a garage that never gets colder than 50F the only time it's outside is during work and when they had the car cause it needed a new steering rack (pulling to the right even though it was properly aligned). Finally, we started to get some decent weather and the sun came out and that is when I noticed it. Thanks for the reply's i've already contacted my service adviser with the picture and mentioned the issues i've been having with individual mode. I'll keep everyone updated.

I have some good beeswax for wood surfaces but I was afraid if I put anything on it they wouldn't fix it. I'll ask them what I should do if it gets replaced. WHEN it gets replaced.

It doesn't look like cracking to me,it looks like it just needs to be conditioned. I'm interested to see what they do about it.

Just an update for everyone. My normal service advisor was back today and we compared my trim with a car that had the same and they said clearly something was wrong with mine. They have ordered a full replacement of all the center console trim not just the door.

Is there something we are suppose to be using to protect/condition this trim?

This is a notorious problem with Mercedes wood. Every car I've ever had or seen has had its wood crack after some period of time. My wife's w204 C250 just had the trim on the doorpanel replaced for the exact same reason. Once it starts cracking, it becomes progressive and unstoppable..... Exactly the reason I didn't get ANY wood in my Coupe.... I got the fiberglass waterfall with aluminum elsewhere. Good luck with this!!!!!
