Accident

Haven't posted much, but wanted to share a photo of an accident in my C63 from yesterday. Other driver ran a red light and I didn't have time to even hit the brakes. Probably hit him at around 35 mph and he was going roughly the same speed perpendicular to me. Airbags all went off and I walked away completely unharmed. The car did its job.

The repair shop is currently looking at it, so I don't know yet whether it can be repaired.

Drive safely.

Very sorry to see hope it's considered totaled so you will get a brand new one

Sorry for your loss man. Glad you made it out unharmed.

Let's hope this car gets totaled. Take it to the most expensive body shop in your area and cross your fingers.

Sorry to hear and glad you didn't get hurt!

As for the car, you'll get another. As Guilty mentioned, make sure you take it to the most expense car shop to render it totaled.

Sorry to hear that; I know your feeling as an uninsured 21 year old rear ended me 5 weeks ago. These cars are very expensive and so far the price tag is close to 20K. I can imagine that it will be a lot more on your case as it is a front end collision and there are a lot of more components up front. There is a big chance that it will be a total loss.

Good to hear you are OK and good luck

Not sure how it works for everyone, but I remember when I had insurance claims, the shop was only responsible for determining what parts needed to be replaced... Then the insurance claims adjuster looked at the fee sheet, ignored any pricing, and came up with their own quote for price and labor hours required solely based on the parts that the shop determined needed replacement. And that was a high end shop as well... Are your insurance companies just taking whatever the shop quotes and paying out?

It really varies based on which shop and which insurance company. But yes, in my own personal experience, I always got insurance companies to pay out what the high-end shop is asking and not a penny less.

Just make sure it's a legit reputable shop and the insurance will match. The shop might have to put a fight for you but they always end up paying up.

You are my hero. Hopefully I'm never in that situation again, but that's my new game-plan.

To OP, glad you're okay, that's all that matters. Whatever happens to the car happens... good luck!

Me too. My cars have been vandalized or damaged more than I can count.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm still amazed that I walked away from the accident without a scratch and had very little soreness in the days following the accident. Very tempted to stick with Mercedes if the car is totaled.

I'm still waiting to hear about the fate of the car. This is my first accident of this kind, so not sure how long these things take.

I thought once all airbags deploy, it's considered salvage?

Oh no lol. Airbags deployment doesn't determine if the car is getting salved or no. It's the TLT (Total Loss Threshold) that dictates whether or not the damage is high enough to lead to write-off status.

OMG Are u ok? let me know if I can help in any way. Please be careful. I got hit the other day by someone on a bycicle head on but my airbags didn't open..the guy on the bike went over the car and skid about 40 feet.. now I have a scratch and dent on my hood..he's trying to blame me for the accident saying that I went through a red light even though it was red for just a second because I sped up to make it..he's still in the hospital but he is being really annoying trying to get my attention... I told him he should pay for the damage to my car especially from where his head bounced off the windshield and put a small crack in it..and the hood has dents and scratches from his stupid bycicle..

As an avid cyclist that has witnessed first hand fellow law-abiding riders being seriously injured by aggressive motorists, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING funny about that situation at all. If anything, it's pathetic and childish.

With that type of attitude, I can only hope and wish that the injured cyclist goes after you and gets everything he rightfully deserves plus some.

Mate, he is having a joke. No one would think that in such a situation.

I know it was meant as a joke.

Having myself been hit by a careless, distracted driver, I do not find it funny in the least.

I appreciate your position, but this was a joke.
Second, and not to derail this conversation, but there are many cyclers are are as inconsiderate of their motorized road cattle mates, as cars are of them.
If you would like, I'm happy to start saving the videos from my dash cam of bikers running lights, ride 2-3 bikes wide in a bike lane holding up traffic, riding on 1 lane dangerous roads in the middle of the road and holding up traffic, swerving into traffic back and forth as they peddle "hard", etc.
The difference is: bikers are almost impossible to see and far more unpredictable than a car.

So, while I appreciate the joke, I think we all need to just relax... :-)

There are jerks everywhere in life. They are on bikes ignoring street signs and holding up traffic. They are behind the wheel of cars and can't put down their phones. They are on the bus and won't give their seat to the elderly lady that just stepped on. They fart in the express elevator headed to the top floor of a skyscraper.

I've seen those cyclists you talk about. I've ridden with many like that and got in arguments on the road about how they need to stop being douches. I've personally yelled out my car window at other riders many times as well.

That doesn't mean it's funny to joke about seriously harming someone because a small percentage of others are jerks. If you've seen an impact as described above in person (which I have), you'd understand the reasoning for my earlier response.
