So I took them DP to the high end ceramic coating shop in the area, and they were REALLY impressed with the DP...from the welds, to the quality of the steel. Really a work of art. Well worth the money. You get what you pay for with Mike's Customs! Thanks Shardul!

They are certainly not the cheapest option in the market, but they are priced very well.

Nice choice brother, Mike’s Custom Downpipes are a piece of art definitely.

Post up some pics with the ceramic coating before having them fitted so we can all see...

So I discussed with the premier powerdercoating and ceramic coating shop in Tampa pros and cons of ceraming coating the inside and outside of the exhaust. They said the outside provided a lot more thermal efficiency than the inside. But if I wanted to decrease heat transfer even more efficiently than ceramic coating the interior & exterior, their suggestion was to ceramic coat the exterior twice. Plus it saves time & money, since there's no additional prep time. Just some time to allow the first ceramic coat to cure, and they'd coat it a second time. So that's what I went with. Being that you can't see these pipes when installed (unless on a lift), I opted for the best thermal coating irrespective of appearance. So I went with a "bare" looking black.

Nice. What did the coating run you? Looks great.

Thanks. Coating is $25/foot, and at 6 feet, that's $150. Second coating was half price ($75). So $225 + tax.

Not bad! I was planning on doing this as well, but recently had 2 speed shops tell me it wasn't necessary any probably overkill...anyone have thoughts on this?

Not bad at all. Gonna have my DPs done before install. I'll ask them about 2x coating thanks.

It's not necessary, but there are lots of upsides to it heat retention, added efficiency, lower engine bay temps etc etc.

Yeah... and if you look at the stock DP's, they have some heat shielding as well... would rather be safe than sorry. Most people didn't realize the M5 DP's were double-walled, so when they installed their aftermarket DP's without any heat coating, they ended up melting a bunch of stuff... better safe than sorry... especially since ceramic coating isn't that much more expensive!

Yea even if the performance effect is minimal (hopefully minimizing the chance of heatsoaking), lower under engine bay temps are always a good thing. A lotta the plastic etc gets brittle and beat up over time from the excessive heat.

I was in a time crunch when another vendor on this forum left me hanging, Shardul said he had Dps in stock and ACTUALLY HAD THEM IN STOCK. He expedited the shipping and got them to me the next day so my car didnt sit in the shop.

The DPs are great quality, with professional clean welds. Highly recommend!!

It sounds like a monster. Paired with AWE track exhaust, it's very loud but no drone and in comfort mode it's almost tame. I'll throw up some videos later.
