There's really not much more to show. My buddy has one, it's basically some risers and an aftermarket filter. Gets the filter out of the way of the intake tubing. Looks basically stock besides the red siding.

What's your buddy's opinion? Any noticeable difference in sound/power?

Those Eventuri intakes in CF are going to be GORGEOUS......... man... Tempting... Hard to justify cost, though, especially when it's under the hood and hidden from sight 99% of the time... 😒

Not that much of a difference, though he hasn't thrown it on the dyno. Even if you gain 10ish HP from a setup it would be hard to notice on a 500 HP vehicle. His thought process was the same as mine, with all the complaints of how poorly designed the factory setup was in regards to filter position its worth throwing a couple hundred dollars at and seeing what happens.

The pricing for intakes on this platform are absolutely insane. Lambo-level pricing in a low-model benz market.

yeah some of these manufacturers are insane. why spend 4k on an intake when for about half I could buy brand new bigger turbos lol

Good to hear Payam! Looking forward to it, your option is the only one in remote consideration. I can appreciate pretty CF but when it comes to car mods I've always been more of a function over form guy.

Payam - Looking forward to this intake and seeing the some independent dyno tests. I love the power with my Dinan tune, but having an extra 20-25 hp up top in the higher RPM's would be perfect. Assuming this picks up the power up top as expected, I'll be picking one up and it'll be the last mod I do to this car until the replacement comes next year. I have the C8 in my laser sights, (with the 991.2 Carrera as the backup in case the C8 doesn't live up to expectations) - the warranty on my Coupe is up October 2020, so it won't be long until the 63 is on its way out.

Has anyone in the industry looked into the use of ceramics to reduce heat? CF is nice, but to reduce the intake temp would be more beneficial. Specifically, trying to keep the heat from the engine and especially away from those turbos, IMO, would give higher HP numbers.

I have a feeling the cost would be prohibitive, but still... And we could always talk about air/water intercoolers for cold air. Curious. Would like to get some feedback on this.

I don't think I would be interested in something either that expensive or that adds that much complexity under the hood. Careamic coating would need to either be done to a lot of different parts or be a custom formed plate. And I would want to see some before/after IATs to he convinced it would be worth it. I think the packaging challenge for an intake intercooler would be a deal breaker.

Intercoolers are air to liquid, so you'd need to change the heat exchanger and the intercoolers for it to work better even a little.
Our PNP methanol kit for the C63/S does lots to the IAT and power output on these cars.

I never said it wouldn't be expensive. And probably cost prohibitive. But looking at all the variations of CAI's, I ask is there any way to possibly wrap the intake system with something that would repel heat? CF, IMO, looks pretty but doesn't prevent the intake air from heating up any more than other materials currently being used. I saw someones system in the pics where they looked wrapped. Is that the same material used for headers?

BTW, I understand talking to a BMW service manager a few years back that the X5's with the turbos down in the V were causing blown head gaskets and warped heads long term. Anyone seeing those issues with Mercedes?

I wouldn’t get hung up on wraps or coatings to try and control air temps. Don’t forget, this car has two turbos jammed into a hot V. Cold air isn’t going to matter one bit... physics will counter that as it gets compressed, and the air going from turbo to engine will be just as hot no matter what.

All that matters on turbo cars is whether there is air volume restriction. I believe that’s what BMS and others are saying, is that the factory design is restrictive, and it’s the volume/flow increase that makes power.

Well, I’ve always said the engine is nothing more than an air pump. More air in more power out.

True. Specifically oxygen. Increases in oxygen come from volume and/or temperature (density). In turbo cars, volume is by far the most important variable that can be controlled, over temp.

pretty arbitrary way of thinking about it. Air still passes through intercoolers before getting fed into the engine - if those intercoolers have head room - sure the iat might not matter much - but if they are already operating at their maximum efficiency then keeping that air cool will net more consistent results at least.

I’m not sure you understand the temperatures that occur inside a turbo housing. 15-20° difference in air going inside the turbo will have no impact on the temp of air entering the intercooler.
