Exclamation EDITION 1 AMG C63s only makes 276WHP on a Dynojet | SSR Performance

Hey guys!

Last week we released our new Stage 2 ECU calibration and downpipes for the W205 C63 / C63s, and have had an insane amount of new interest. We have had quite a few past W205 customers who have come in for carbon fiber exterior bits along with full wraps and what not, of which many contacted us to inquire these new power modifications.

One of our clients wanted to do a before and after dyno (the right / fun way to keep track of power progress on your car). So we went ahead and got it on the dynojet. This customer had also been complaining about a recent power loss that he had been experiencing so we were very adamant on making sure we get a baseline on it to ensure that the car is in right working order before we start throwing aftermarket parts on it. The car had already been taken to MB to be fixed and was flashed with a software update. They claimed there are no issues with the car. Sure enough, our results point towards the "limp mode" issue that many a people have experienced with the 63s'. In the video below, we take the car on a test drive and to get it on the dyno. Goes without saying, and considering that this car is stock and has always been stock, it will be going back to MB again for a warranty fix.

The process can be seen in the video below... let's just say 276hp on a dynojet explains it all....hahah

Some Helpful members @bgm130 and @munis commented this has been seen when the exhaust valves have been bypassed. We will have the customer track down his stock exhaust and try testing again.

you say its 100% stock then in the video you mention "muffler deletes" if you removed any valves that had motors on it there is your issue. If this car came with the performance exhaust w/button. there will be no CELs or anything but the car will have a soft code indicating the valves are inoperative and pull power.

Exactly, I saw this yesterday and wanted to point it out. The moment you disconnect the PE wires from the Valves, it will throw a code of electric short in the valves. And that is a soft code and will not show up in the dash. Upon scanning with star it will show up 100% and that is what causing the limp mode. I am surprised it puts down that much horsepower even in limp.

Solution is simple, put things back the way it was. Reset all systems and adaptations, car should go back to normal.

Thanks for the information. The customer brought the car in with muffler delete and had only felt the power loss recently. After he took it to the Mercedes dealer who updated software, diagnosed and read codes which came back with a clear bill of health he felt the loss of power was more pronounced. Maybe this is something that MB isnt aware of too? We'l have him get a valved system on there and test it again.

Another click bait video trying too hard to vlog something of interest...

Forget buying an entire valved exhaust, just buy some valve simulators from AWE and you’ll be all set. I agree that it’s in limp mode because someone deleted the valves without knowing the consequences... MB isn’t going to fix something directly caused by someone’s modification.

Im running with a AWE Trake Edition Exhaust which still has a centre H-Pipe valve and straight through rear pipes.

AWE supplied valve simulators for the rear two harness plugs.

The client brought us the car with the muffler deletes. He had the muffler deletes done elsewhere and brought the "low power" issue up to us 3-4 months post muffler delete. Not having experienced this issue before, there was no clear indication to us that the muffler delete was causing this issue considering it was something that popped up recently according to the client. I wasn't able to find any information anywhere about anyone with a C63/C63s that had a muffler delete that was experiencing this same issue. This car was then taken to MB and "updated" according to them and left with a diagnosis as being "100% healthy" to which we then went ahead and took it to the dynojet to test it for power. Sure enough our testing showed that it is not healthy. After hearing multiple of you guys having this issue due to a muffler delete, it seems pretty clear that that must be causing his issue.

I understand that MB would never fix this issue. It was never implied that this was expected given that the issue was caused by a modification done to the car. The assumption in the video was that the issue was being caused by something other than the single modification that the car had, which was the muffler delete (i.e. low battery voltage issue that is much more widely known). That is the only reason that the car was being referred to as "stock" as in not having any "power modifications" or "tunes" that might cause the car to act in the way that it was acting with reduced power. However, now that we know that the muffler delete may be the root of the issue we will advise the client to replace the mufflers to stock muffler and see if MB would be kind enough to reset the system if necessary after replacement to bring the car back to life hopefully! Thanks for all of the help everyone!
