I used to run aftermarket filters in my previous cars. I stopped after seeing oil analyses from cars with stock filters vs. aftermarket oil-impregnated cloth filters, like K&N and BMC. The amount of silicates in the oil was much higher. High enough to be a problem? No idea, but the minor performance gains weren’t worth it, to me.

If this was the case why would almost every tuner recommend aftermarket filters that offer better flow?

K&Ns are for 17 year olds in their Honda Civic waiting for their V-TEC to kick in. Don’t put that junk on your AMG.

Using this rationale, anything a tuner shop sells must work effectively...

Interesting test showing about 3% increase in HP for K&N filter's over stock.

On a C63S, that would be about 15hp!
