C63S ride quality

Hi Everyone,

Been trying to search for comparisons but falling a bit short at the moment.

I'm coming from a CLA45 '14 - which at the time was a fantastic car for me. However as I get older - the ride quality of the CLA45 has slowly battered me down.

While I understand the C63/S is by no means a cloud on wheels, was wondering if anyone who has experienced both would be able to shed some light on the how the ride quality between the two compares. Am hoping that the C63S is at least slightly less jolting in comfort, given that the CLA45 doesn't have an option to adjust the suspension at all.

The C63S will be less jolting in comparison for sure. I've had plenty of seat time in both cars.

A “cloud on wheels” definitely isn’t the right description...I agree with you there.

It’s more like...a brick riding on rocks?

But seriously, it’s significantly harsher than a CLA. Is it livable? Sure. But I suspect if you’re already concerned, you may not like it.

The c63s is harsher than the CLA45? That's a bit concerning. Haven't been able to find 1 to 1 comparisons, but looking at the language used from the reviews for both these cars, the CLA45 tends to be described as harsh compared to the c63 being described as adequate.

I've never driven the CLA45, but here are a few things to be aware of. You need to qualify your question a bit more. The coupe is more comfortable than the sedan. It's been noticed by many journalists who've reviewed both and it has been confirmed by AMG, that the coupe, being the GT in the group is deliberately sprung more comfortable in comfort mode than the sedan. I've driven an '18 sedan and several '18 coupes and the sedan is quite punishing, IMO. In addition, the '19 has been retuned to be even more comfortable. It has 8-10% lower spring rates and at the same time the software was tweaked to make it even more dynamic in Sport+, so expect the '19 to be more comfortable and have a wider spread between Comfort and Sport+. Best is to drive them for yourself. Ride comfort is somewhat subjective and there are many factors that go into it. A lighter car like the CLA45 tends to bounce around more, than a heavier car like the C63/S. It takes more disturbance to move a bigger mass.

Thanks for the reply

To add more info, am taking in the '19 sedan, expected arrival 2019 April

Was only able to drive the pre face-lift version, as the test car may only be available next year Feb/Mar (am in Singapore, so we get deliveries a lot later)

The preface lift version seemed to be more comfortable than my current CLA45, but wasn't able to fully test it over bumps and holes in the road, as the test route was quite well paved, and they don't allow much room in terms of deviation do the test route given. Hence the query

In any case, I hope it is softer - but am not expecting it to be overly soft as well.

The sedan ride benefits greatly from better tires (Michelin 4S's) and lower air pressures (38/33). It's still pretty firm but much better.

Having formally owned a 14 CLA 45 for 3 years.
I undoubtedly say my C63S experience has been,a little better in the suspension dept.

JWreck didn't say 45, so I'm not sure if he's comparing to a regular CLA or the CLA45?

comparing a gla 45 to a cla45 , a gla 45 definitely has a better ride quality than the CLA. The c63s definitely has a better ride quality than the GLA45, therefore also has a better ride quality than a CLA45.

tyres and tyre pressure do make a difference. the alpin PA4 winter tyres im running have an improved ride quality than the MPSS summer tyres over bumps
