I can't even exploit a non-S 469 HP and 479 lb of torque 98% of the time in my daily commute without being in serious trouble lol

I want to ask this same question, but specific to the 2016 MY. It appears the discussion went onto a tangent to MY 19+. Should I start a new discussion?

It's like the difference between a large caliber gun and a small caliber gun. Often same result, but one is more fun.

Get the non-S, the minor differences will not be noticeable unless you track this heavy s.o.b. performance wise 35 hp is negligible. Ive won and lost to just about an even share of S cars in the quarter when I got a good start...and I have a cabriolet. Now that im tuned...forget it. I paid 16k less than a comparable S cab.

The C63S is the C63S. The C63 is not. No tune, etc will make a C63 a C63S. It is what it is. My GTS is a GTS, not a GT with less hp. My Z06 is a Z06, not a Gran Sport with less hp. Buy what you want and be happy for what it is. Don't give a crap over what I drive.

Main differences after 2019 from what I can tell are dynamic engine mounts, race mode, and 9 stage traction control. The engine mounts are the only one I will probably miss on my non-s, but I already have a car for the track so no real concern. To me the C63s is basically what the 507 was to my c63, definitely worth going for but the standard car will still deliver desired results for most people.

What exactly causes this 35 hp difference? Is it possible upgrade a simple C63 to C63s?

I like having a C63S for saying I own one. If you are like me, then get a C63S. Otherwise, if I wanted just power, plenty of cheaper cars with lots of power or can be modded to have lots of power.

Don’t forget that gearing on the S is also different.

I apologize, my mistake. It’s different between coupe and sedan and not between S and non-S.

Cant remember the specifics but recall that the S has an electronically controlled differential and the non-s has a mechanically controlled diff. Giving it the ability to be electrically locked out during certain situations to keep both rear wheels engaged. Not sure if that's still the case in 2020s or if all of them get that diff now.

What about engine internals?

Just went through the process of replacing my engine and noticed that the part number (for the long block) for the S and NON S are different.

But I can't find any information as to why... Perhaps upgraded internals on the S?

For some reason, it’s not listed for FL coupes but it was listed for Pre-FL which was the same as FL.

Yeah, the coupe and cab have a roughly 10% shorter final drive (higher ratio), which means they make about 10% more torque at the wheels in any given gear at a slight reduction of theoretical top speed. This difference is reflected in the official 0-60 times. C63S Coupe is 3.7s, sedan 3.8s and the heavier cab is 3.9s.

yep. I am sure it was done to negate the weight difference in the straight line performance and Coupe was meant to be just a tad faster In straight line. Well at least on paper.

I have driven an S and own a non-S (2016). Difference in both was not noticeable to me on normal roads/motorways. I was aware I was driving an S and that probably accounts for any extra performance I think I noticed. I don't track the C63 so it is just a daily and it does me fine. It destroys road (and most cars on it) and is plenty of fun especially with the PE which is an absolute must IMO! The engine is exactly the same in both (except the mounts) so when tuned the outputs will be identical.

The only real difference I have noticed is the S is holding value better. Since I bought mine the % drop on the non-S has been greater but that only matters if you care. At the time (2018), mine was around 40k while the S was 45k+ which nudged the S just out of my price range. Now mine is about 32k with an S around 40k with similar mileage etc.

Between MY18 and MY19 I will say it is better to get the 19 because of the 9 speed gearbox vs the 7 speed in the <19 models. The 7 speed box is by far the worst thing about this car for me and is a dog to drive sometimes especially when cold. I had the 9 speed in my C43 and it was much more responsive. It appears to make a huge difference and seems to correct the issues the 7 speed has based on reviews I have seen (not driven a 9 speed C63 yet). For what it's worth I'd say to drive an 18 and 19 b2b and see what you prefer.

The money you save purchasing a PFL non S will be lost come resale. A FL S will hold its value much better.

AMG C63 S Cab
I'm an old Porsche guy and just came out of a 911 C4S cab and bought a 2020 AMG C63S cab. I seldom drove the Porsche's anywhere close to full potential but that didn't minimize the thrill of driving them. If I didn't buy the AMG "S" - I'd kick myself every time one passed me. The difference in price becomes negligible with dealer/manufacturer discounts.

I've had over a dozen 911's including a ***** to the wall 1986 Turbo but I'll take my 2020 AMG C63S cab over any of them. Get the S if you can!

I went the C63 route so I can pay the $6K in tax and license fees along with the 77K sticker price.
Call me a poser
Wait can you even justify being a poser when your are driving the one of the hottest coupes on the road stamped with a AMG badge and a fresh paper temporary licensee.

This enthusiast stuff is so personal at the end of the day , half the talk goes in one ear out the other.
Its all about what you are comfortable with.
Drive a C63 = A fun Drive
Drive a C63s = A fun drive

funny thing thou! for the past 3 years I have laughed at you Sport Coupe guys having to pay for gas
At just under $20 I get a full-tank of Gas , cant remember the last time I even seen the gas station.

Do you think this will change after i take ownership of a V8 monster? are my $20 gas days just about over?

LOL...expect 12 mpg driving around town and I'm not kidding. A single tank takes 17.4 gallons, so yeah you won't get far with a $20 fillup. My lifetime average is at 16 and not closer to 12 only because of some long highway trips where I can get an average of 24+ fairly easy. This car actually has impressive highway mpg for what it is. Funny thing is my lifetime average was at 17 after coming back from Europe despite all the highspeed driving I did in Germany. It's been steadily coming down since. I look at it purely for amusement . Gotta pay to play!

My MPG took another bad hit after applying the stage 2 tune...but as you said, pay to play.
