Selenite Grey Metallic with matte wrap?

I will be taking delivery of a Selenite Grey (metallic, not magno) coupe soon, (hopefully anyway).

My last car had a few expensive dings that I’m trying to avoid this time by fully wrapping it in a PPF. Only question is to play it safe and do a clear wrap to preserve the gloss, or go matte.

Just curious if anyone has fully wrapped a selenite metallic in something like Xpel Stealth. If it looks similar to a magno, then great, but I’m not able to find good comparisons (photos) online and concerned it will look weird. All I can find are photos of selenite magnos being wrapped in matte wrap, but that’s not quite what I’m looking for. Before spending the money, I’m hoping some folks here have experience around this. Thanks

Yeah, got it done on my C63S a few months back. I understand the look is not for everyone obviously, but I personally love it and have no regrets. Some pics:

Of course, right after I made this post, I found the very thing I was looking for. Posting images below from a Facebook post (won't let me directly link for some reason) for others who may be in the same boat as me. Looks great in my opinion. I don't know if I'd be able to tell that apart from a factory magno selenite, unless perhaps if they're parked side to side.

Here is a E63s Selenite Grey Metallic converted to matte via Xpel Stealth PPF wrap by Elevated Auto in Toronto:

It's a simulated matte look, won't have the same solid shimmer of a Designo Magno finish. Like the effect of putting a matte screen protector on a gloss black iPhone.

Looks good for protection though, heard Suntek has a decent matte wrap.

To each his own. I don’t find any matte colors appealing. I think I may be in the minority these days, but I like my paint shinny/glossy. Enjoy your ride.

I'm not sure how this is worth it. I got a few quotes for Xpel and they were all ~10k. You can have a lot of dings repaired for 10k. Even with it there's no guarantee that the paint wont get damaged. Totally not worth it in my opinion. Only if it was a rare Ferrari or Porsche were original paint matters.

Looks awesome! Have you taken the car through an automatic car wash? Does it hold up well to that?

Is anything special required in terms of washing the car (as is the case with real magno paint) or can you run it through any old car wash? If you were able to have all the magno look without any of the mango hassle, that may just justify the crazy high price of a custom full-body matte xpel wrap.

Thanks all for the kind words. I'll try to answer a few questions asked above:

* How much did they charge?
Arm and a leg for sure. I was getting quotes between 6-8k for a full wrap, and depending on whether they also do window tinting at the same time and/or ceramic coating additionally. I went with Xpel as my installer which was at the higher end of the spectrum. The non-matte wrap tend to be a few hundred cheaper, and towns a few hours away were charging about $1k less (but I wasn't willing to make the drive).

I would say that the quality/expertise of the installer is critical for this type of work and if you're going to take the plunge, don't go for the cheapest one by default.

* Have you taken the car through an automatic car wash? Does it hold up well to that?
* Is anything special required in terms of washing the car (as is the case with real magno paint) or can you run it through any old car wash?
I've always babied my cars and insist on washing them myself, so I can't comment on taking it through an automated car wash. However, according to Xpel, you can do it as long as you wait 48 hours after installation for the film to dry (source: https://www.xpel.com/faq). That said, it's super easy to clean the matte film due to the non-stick nature of the product, plus no need to wax/polish obviously. Additionally in this color at least, the film hides the dirt very well.

Looks awesome man! I almost went with the same color but ended up deciding on the Dark Gray Satin. Can't wait to get it installed next month!

Hi. Love your C63. I hope you don’t mind my asking:

Where did you have your wrap done?

And what wrap color / manufacturer did they use?

Here's a picture of mine, they used SunTek matte film when they did the car.

My installer was in the UK (Onyx Automotive) so probably no use to you.
