Angry Have I Been Ferris’d?

I took my car in on the 27th because I had a CEL come on in my 2019 S coupe. Turns out it was a faulty sensor and nothing really wrong but they wanted to replace the sensor. Anyway, had to order part from Germany. Said I could drive it but went ahead and put me in a loaner. Car finally fixed today. I haven’t picked it up.

Anyway, I’m looking at my Mercedes Me app and notice the cars odometer reading is 100 miles more than I dropped it off! I can’t think of any reason they needed to put that kinda mileage on it. I feel like they took my car for joy rides like parking garage attendants in Ferris Beuller.

I really don’t want to think they pulled that kinda s#it. This is a big, reputable dealer. But, I can’t help but think they did.

any thoughts, advice, recourse? I’m prepared to go medieval, but I’m hoping there’s a reasonable explanation.

I mean... you could discuss with them first and see what they say?

Oh, I certainly will ask them for an explanation, and I really do hope they offer a plausible one. I want to be overthinking this one. But what kind of repair (name one) requires they put 100 miles on the car?

There is none. Unfortunately it sounds like the tech took the car home...

I know there’s nothing really to be done now, but in the future a dashcam system might be useful in preventing stuff like this. I have a full 2-channel GPS Cloud dash and the tech’s always seem to take it extra easy knowing that they’re being monitored. Always super gentle throttle to 40mph lol.

Anyways I hope you put them on blast. Don’t let them get away with it

With my 2017, I used the geofencing in the Mercedes Me app to alert me
when my car was out of the preset radius.

100 miles is simply unacceptable. I can't wait to hear what the excuse is.

One more reason the Mercedes ME connect becomes handy! I know I'll have to break down and get some sort of dash cam unit; they just look so unsightly!

Yeah, that's really bad. For sure the dealership will do something to compensate you for letting someone borrow your car and rip the hell out of it for a week.

Let us know how it goes!

100 mi is a bit too much, when I had my coil packs replaced, tech drove it less than 20 mi to make sure. SA also told me in advance that the tech was going to test drive it too. So definitely speak to your SA and see whats up.

its not uncommon for techs to take the car home as "road testing". Im sure this is what happen. However, I completely agree that adding that kind of miles is very wrong and you should definitely bring it up.

This intrigued me. How do you find the car's mileage with Mercedes Me app?

having come from a 2018 E63s that threw multiple CELs and ultimately resulted in a buyback, I can tell you that this kind of mileage is not out of the ordinary. I am sure AMG Germany gave tech directive. Wouldn’t worry much about it. It’s only a car after all.

Get it professionally hardwired. I'll take a few pictures of my front/back units. They did a great job and it looks like it's part of the car. Same with my radar detector haha.

That is insane. I will be the worst customer the dealership ever had the good fortune of meeting if they did this with my car.

Thanks, I'd like to see how one professionally installed looks like...the rear will be tricky for me, since I have a CAB. Also, what unit you have would be appreciated also.

Exactly. The app doesn't show mileage at all.

You need to use the Mercedes Companion App, not the Mercedes Me App

Talk to the dealer, see what their explanation is and tell them what service manual in MB lineup asks for the tech to put over 100 miles on the car? They won't have an answer. Maybe you can get some pre-paid maintenance intervals for free out of them at least. I would say give them a chance to make it up to you.

Been seeing a lot of confusion with the Mercedes Me app. I believe all the 2019 onwards have a different version, and it shows mileage and additional features in the Mercedes Me app. Also it's free.

A few years back I made an offer on a Porsche turbo suv

at a dealership in another city -

They accepted the offer and I made arrangements to pick

it up on a Saturday so they could detail it upside down and

backwards on Friday -

So while the young guys in the detail shop were detailing

the suv suddenly it was lunch time and they decided to take

my ride to get lunch -

Hot rod driving resulted in a wreck which killed my desire

for that suv -

I always make note of the mileage with the SA standing

right there so he knows that I know because:

Thank-You

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I spoke with my SA and the Service Manager. I’m relieved I guess that it was NOT a joyride case. They conducted two “quality control” drives (50 miles each) and they documented them as such in the service log.

Their explanation was these are needed following a CEL to allow the codes to clear and to ensure they don’t come back. They said this is pretty typical. I said 100 miles still seemed a tad much in my opinion, but ok.

I also was also not thrilled with the fact they decided to use toll roads, especially on a warranty job, but I’m not gonna quibble over a few bucks.

So, there it is. Thankfully, not a joy ride, but still a lot of miles IMHO. For those of you that get a CEL, be prepped for them to put some miles on it.

Im definitely going to take advantage of the valet and geofence features of the app going forward.

Btw, the Merc Me app I was referring to is the Mercedes Me Connect app (which I guess is a stateside thing only?). It does provide odometer and other status about the car. Sorry for any confusion.

Still a joy ride, but one with a good excuse. Still BS though...

Definitely sounds like it's been taken out for an extended joy ride unfortunately - this happens so much in the auto trade it's not funny.

What to do from now on and something I always do if any of my cars are ever left anywhere for any extended period of time is let them know that you've taken note (pic etc.) of the odo reading and if there shouldn't be any extra mileage then none should appear either when collecting the car, this has always worked for me for all of my cars with no cams or other monitoring equipment installed.

Most dealers here take note of mileage and internal/external condition of the car anyway just in case damage has occurred whilst in their possession.

Always a good idea on the more expensive and performance orientated vehicles to have cams installed.
