Need help on new wheel color.

Hi All,
I'm looking to order a set of BC Forged EH172 for my 2017 C63S sedan. I plan to stay with stock sizes but I'm having difficulty with the finish choice.

The car is selenite gray so I was considering brushed clear but I'm afraid the brushed clear will be too flashy and look "cheap" for lack of a better term. I want the wheels to be noticeable but not overtake the car.

My other thought was brushed black. In pictures it looks like grey paint which I don't want (grey car and grey wheels is too much). However I watched a video and it resembles black chrome. The "flashiness" seems toned down from the clear and seems to show more of the subtle features of the wheel. It's hard to tell without seeing in person. I'm hoping someone has seen these finishes in person and can offer some advice.

Thanks for the help.
J.

I am having the same issue. I’m trying to decide between brushed clear or brushed black.
Clear looks great but I’m thinking will always be dirty....hard to keep clean

brushed black on the other hand looks boring.... but easier to look to keep clean.

I just got a set of HCA162 for my coupe in the brushed dark black finish and it is a gorgeous color and looks amazing in person. I stressed over the finish and I'm so happy with how they turned out. In person and especially in daylight the details really come out though the finish.

Dutchboy, the wheels look gray in the pictures but how do they look in person? They have to have some level of bling and be somewhat reflective, almost like black chrome.

What color is your car?

I had Signature forged wheels on my E63 which are made by BC forged, I got brushed black clear. It was gunmetal like in dark, and in sunlight at certain angles the flakes almost gave it a slight bronze glow. Loved them.

They are a dark gray but they are quite reflective in the sunlight. They do like similar to a black chrome. You can see the machined finish of the wheels through the finish. My car is silver. I will try to remember to snap a picture tonight, although it won't be in sunlight it might give you a better idea.

I have a selenite gray coupe and I choice brushed gross single tint, I think it's in between what you mentioned. I went with Velos Designwerks, but HRE, Brixton, and others offer this finish. I didn't want to go as bright as brushed clear and thought the double tint looks great on black and white cars but may look drab with selenite gray.

In direct sunlight pictures make them look brighter then they are. Live you can definitely tell they're not clear.

BC Forged offers brushed black and brushed dark black. Probably similar to the single and double tint.

Those wheels look good on the grey not too flashy but flashy enough. Thanks for the pics

Also, what size/offset are those. That color looks crazy good. Although I'm getting the Black 19/20's on my Selenite Grey, I generally prefer silver wheels. I just didn't like the options from MB. I' think your color would look great on Selenite Grey. Can't wait to see them on your car.

Even better have the centres finished in a light smoke/tint then clear gloss.

Dark coloured wheels have exactly the same maintenance deal as the vehicle paint, ie. dark colours like black will actually look dirty more and they hide all the fine detail, sort of defeats the purpose of investing in a nice set of aftermarket rims in the first place if you can't see them properly and any blemishes will also stand out more as well.

All a matter of personal preference though.

Here are a couple quick phone pics. The sizes/offsets are 20"x10" +22 front, 20"x11" +50 rear. I am running 275s up front and 295s rear.

They look great.

Did you drop the car, or is it standard height. It looks lowered.

Also, how is the ride and drivability compared with the tires/rims that came with the car? Do you feel that you lost any steering feel, or the car doesn't handle as well with the larger front tires? I'm sure it grips much better. I'm thinking of bumping my fronts to 20's as well.

I am lowered, I have the H&R VTG coils. I haven't pushed the car hard with these new wheels/tires yet. At this point I am probably a little too low. It's hard to tell from the pictures but I have it set super low right now. The front driver's side tire rubs a little on large bumps or when I am turning left over a bump. It's not a severe rub, but it's definitely there.
