New Member - Future (AMG) Owner

Hello, name is Chris and a life long BMW owner who recently jumped ship to Mercedes. I Became so impressed with the car quality and subsequent customer service from my local dealer that I immediately bought 2 c-class vehicles and simultaneously through my money down on the AMG Academy Performance Class as a surprise gift to my oldest boy. We recently finished the class at COA (04/26/19).

At the conclusion of the course it became extremely evident that the C63s Coupe is dollar for dollar the best in the AMG line up. That said, I intend to order one at the end of 2019 but have a couple of questions for the group...

1. Night Package - how easy is it in regard to scratches? When ordering can you opt out to specific parts? For instance, personally I’d opt out for the mirror covers and side skirts.

2. Aerodynamic Package - unfortunately the AMG website doesn’t afford a 360 exterior view. What specifically comes with the upgrade? What does it look like, and is it truly worth it?

thanks in advance for your time,
Chris

Hey I was there that day also! I was in the Black group. Which group were you guys in?

1. Night Package is gloss black so you'll get the usual issues with swirls. However, the surface area isn't all that big for the parts it covers and almost none of it is eye level (except for the spoiler + window trim). The paint quality is very good, so it's not really a huge issue, especially if you PPF/ceramic. You cannot opt out of specific parts.

2. Try the UK website for a good visualizer. MBUSA used to offer the 360-view, but lately they've been straight up lazy.

Good pick on the C63S btw I completely agree

Thanks for the heads up. We were on the “Yellow” team. It was my kid who took third overall in the timed slalom. We’re gonna do the 2 day course at Leguna Seca next year.

First, guessing by your username, thank you for your service. Semper Fi ...

Second, welcome to family. I, too, am a convert with the facelift C63S coupe.

Confirm no part-level selection on the night package.

The aero package has a beefier front spoiler (the additional bottom gloss black lip in this pic)

The rear diffuser is more aggressive, the side skirts are also beefier, and the rear spoiler resembles the older model Edition One. This rear pic sorta illustrates the diffuser and the rear spoiler a bit. Generally speaking, most of the online "pro" pics and videos show a car with the aero package and the night package.

As a guy who did NOT include the aero package in his config, I would strongly recommend you do. However, advise caution if you intend to add any carbon fiber packages with it -- what is carbon fiber and what isn't when you get the aero pkg gets a tad confusing. The monster thread "2019 C63S Deliveries" is flush with discussions on the topic. I think the user "purple widow" is the resident expert on aero + CF packages, if you need that info.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the coupe and the course at COA. I'm absolutely loving mine, and I'm scheduled to go to the Dec session at COA. I can't wait.

Thank you for the additional information and yes, former Marine Corps. I’m a huge F1 fan. Will be in Montreal this year, so it was paramount that I experienced the only US F1 circuit track.

So is the night package truly worth the risk associated with its finish, or should i just opt for the aerodynamic kit?

I got both and all the carbon fiber inside and out. Including the steering wheel which I LOVE!!!!!! I would not get it any other way personally. No regrets here!!

Is it dry carbon or gloss?

Aero kit and night package are sorta independent choices. In both cases, you end up with gloss black accents. The Aero package is just more aggressive looking.

If you're concerned about swirls, you can do what I did with mine -- self-healing ceramic coat or PPF wrap them. I wrapped the mirror covers and the side skirts (and even part of the front A-wing). I ceramic coated the rear diffuser, the rear spoiler, the window trim, the exhaust covers, and the rest of the A-wing. That would address your swirl concerns and given it's such a small job, probably out the door for under $250. (I had my whole car wrapped and coated, so I don't know how much just those parts would cost).

Welcome to the fold. There's been quite some confusion around the Aero Pkg, and a lack of information from MB/AMG regarding details. I also have not really found a good 360 view or good pictures to get an idea of how some of the pieces look beforehand, but now that I have the car, I can only say get the Aero Pkg! I have all the exterior packages, Aero, Night, Carbon Fiber 1 and 2. As mentioned above, the side sills are gloss black instead of carbon as they are supposed to be with the CF Pkg 2. I'm working with the sales manager to get it sorted out, but I'm not sure yet if I want a credit or get the carbon version that is now coming with MY2020. With my car being black, you really have to be standing right next to it to even notice the carbon, but this thing looks menacing in person. The Aero package includes a front lip (splitter), much more pronounced side sills (they really make the car look wider and meaner), rear areo flicks on those air outlets in the bumper on the side and a splitter lip on the rear diffuser as well as bigger more pronounced devil horn rear spoiler. The whole package adds quite a bit to the presence of the car. Hear are a couple of shots of my car from when I took delivery 2 days ago. You can see the the more aggressive front with the lip, beefier side sills and the more aggressive rear.

depending on how much the aero package is, i would imagine going the aftermarket route would be better and more aggressive but not sure if anyone is even out with products for the facelift w205

For the US the aero pkg is a $1750 option.. when you combine it with the carbon fiber mirror and spoiler package the rear spoiler comes in the aero design in carbon fiber. It looks awesome in carbon fiber. Definitely my favorite spoiler available for the car. The side sill inserts look amazing in person. Since I have selenite grey metallic all the carbon and black accents look awesome. They really work well together with that color.

That's kind of where my head was going. If I'm gonna spend the extra money, I really want to be as original as possible. Not to mention, I'd like everything to be color matched.

1. Night package is a matter of preference. I have it on mine and I love it. I wouldn’t base your decision on swirl marks. Having said that, I got mine ceramic coated with Feylab self heal lite and topcoat.

2. The aero-package is absolutely worth it. It gives the car an aggressive, menacing look from every angle. The aero-package and the 19/20 inch wheels are must have options. Combining the CF1 package with aero-package give you the larger aero-kit spoiler in CF.

My son owns a company that makes custom aero accessories, so I’d most likely just have him create a one off set for me.

In regard to the night package specific to swirls/scratches my main concern is around the doors as people have a tendency to put their hands all over the pillars when closing after exiting. Do you have that area ceramic coated as well?

Yes, it’s coated. With this car, I get a lot of people leaving fingerprints on the top and side parts of the window. There’s really no reason to touch the blacked out parts since they don’t border the window.
