Thinking about a change

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum. I'm here to ask advice/pick your brains. I've been in the Audi world for the last 20 years - all S and RS models. I currently have a '14 RS 5 and I really enjoy the car. An unresolved problem has me considering a change. I have found a CPO 2017 C63S (coupe) that has me intrigued. So, I'm hoping that I can get some insights from this fine group. I'm very used to the Audi's I've owned and their all-weather performance. But each has been a performance car and I'm not anxious to move to anything other than an AMG vehicle. I'm concerned about your experiences with reliability, maintenance costs, performance, bad-weather performance (I live in Ohio and it SNOWS). When I buy cars, I drive them. This will be a daily-driver.

Any and all input is very welcome!

Thanks in advance!

RS

Hands down a better car than Audi in every way. It will def put a smile on your face every time you get on that gas pedal. Only thing you might have to get used to is it being RWD. I live in Canada and I daily drive mine throughout the year even in the -40 winters. Put a good set of winter tires on and drive away.

My C63s is overall one of my favorite flagship cars that I’ve owned from all the top tier brands. It’s not the fastest and doesn’t have the most horsepower, but it’s comfortable, quick and a well built car that looks badass (thanks to me lol), plus AMG has a certain status about it.

My ‘11 s4 was a bit better for ripping off the line with launch control due to awd and I liked the interior a tad more, but it had nappa/alcantara which I’m partial to. You might consider the e63s as that compares more to Audi with awd, although I’m not sure how good Mercedes system is.

I recently purchased a 2019 C63S coupe and love it. It's special. I came from a 2016 Audi A7. I test drove 3 different Audi 2019 RS5 and felt the C63S coupe had the chemistry for me. Plus just wanted a change and glad I did. I live in NYC and will need to change to winter tires. With only 1,100 miles , I have had no issues . Hope this helps.

Nope - unbiased was not expected! I'm cross-shopping three cars now; 2019 RS5, 2016/17 C63S and a 2016 F-Type R. All very different cars and all bring different things to the table. Doing my best on multiple forums and venues to assemble as much information as possible. I appreciate everyone's opinions very much!

Right now, the leader seems to be the C63S although, I am a bit concerned about transitioning from AWD to RWD - especially in the Ohio snow belt.

I also was concerned with RWD ,living in NYC winters vary with snow. Definitely. Need snow tires, get a wheel and snow tire package and store wheel and summer tires away. This past winter in NYC no snow. I was thinking of renting a Enterprise car for 2 months ( $900 a month)and keeping C63S Coupe warm and safe.
The best.

And now, I'm thinking the leader is the new C63S. It seems that there has been a pretty extensive jump between '18 and '19. Gonna be visiting a local dealer pretty quickly.

All of your replies have been very helpful. Thanks!

If you need something that's great in snow the C63 is not something i'd recommend.

I drove it last winter with winter tires and it was still tough. Less than ideal. I've owned couple B8 S4s, W212 E63s all daily driven all year round with winter tires and the C63 was the worst. But It's doable if you must.

As far as comparisions, it's a much better car than the B8.5 RS5 in every single way, and it's a better car than the B9 RS5 as well. There's no other car in the segment I would buy over a W205 C63 coupe right now.

2019 C63S
I was an Audi guy for 8 years. I was looking at the new RS5 after owning two S5s. I test drove the ‘18 RS5 a couple times, and thought it was pretty good despite a couple glaring flaws.

Fortunately, I was never able to come to terms with any Audi dealership. Audi was, and still is, in a fantasy world on the RS5. They think it’s infinitely more special and “exclusive” than it is. They wanted Porsche 911 money, which neither I or anyone else would be willing to pay. In fact, there are still 2018 RS5 Coupes collecting dust at SoCal Audi dealerships. Audi Pacific has two right now, one of which, I know has been there since last July.

Ultimately, I was able to work out a deal on a killer C63S that was sitting at port in Long Beach. Got it sight unseen, didn’t test drive it, and it was the best car decision I’ve ever made. It’s SO much car for the money. Everything from its looks, especially with the aero-kit, it’s flared out ultra-aggressive wide stance, it’s engine, interior, and tech are superior to the Audi. I’ve only had it for about two months and there isn’t a week that goes by without someone giving me a thumbs up, or saying something complimentary. I’ve even seen people in my rear view mirror and in parking lots taking pictures. Kinda cool.

I also came from an Audi A7 and drove a few 2019 RS5 and glad I purchased 2019 C63S coupe almost 2 months ago. Based on current tire reviews I changed from stock tires (Michelin Super Sports to new generation Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I had 1,200 miles on stock tires but decided to make change. Done at MB Dealership.

Were the stock tires runflats? If so, what are your comfort and performance impressions of the PS4s?

No, the C63 stock tires are not runflats. I'm planning on putting PS4S on the C63 as well once the car arrives in the USA. I had PSS on my '13 RS5 and then replaced them with the PS4S. The ride comfort is about the same, the PS4S might be a tad stiffer at first until it gets some mileage on it, but the PS4S is so much better in terms of how it sits on the road. The new hybrid Aramid and Nylon belts vs the old steel belts make a big difference in terms of contact patch. AMG should have put PS4S on the 2019+ since they retuned the suspension anyway. Doesn't make much sense to stick with the PSS, The PS4S has superior dry and wet grip and handles better.

I have only 50 miles on tires. I made change based on many reviews that PS4S are better traction wet and dry conditions, the Ps4s fell a more secure ride for me in my 50 miles on dry roads. I left the PSS with 1,200 miles at Dealership so be it.
