Takes 2K rpm to start moving

Not sure what to call or search for..

But I have noticed on a 2016 C63s , that when putting in Gear to drive, it takes lots of RPMs to get moving.... (I hope its not a slipping clutch or something) but any advice/assistance would be appreciated (trying to assist a friend)

Can you elaborate a little more? Under what conditions are you feeling this?

It starts in 2nd gear in comfort modes hence what you/ your friend are experiencing. It is weird and takes some getting used to. Worse when cold.

I find this is less so if you first release the park brake (by pulling the metal park-brake tab located under the dash to the left (in left-hand drive cars). I also use an individual setting with the drivetrain configured to run in Sport mode so that 1st gear is used for leaving off from a complete stop. If I know I'm going to be sitting/stopped for an extended period (e.g., some long stop-lights), I'll put the transmission in neutral to avoid any drag that's on the clutch. Likely unnecessary, but ...

Yes, same here. With the parking brake released, the car starts moving somewhere around 500-1000 RPM.

I think the brake hold feature (i.e. depressing brake pedal twice) would be much easier to engage and should also avoid any stress on the clutch right?

All,

Thank you for the replies, and I had asked him some of the questions that I would, and it seems most likely it's because of it starting in 2nd (he starts and drives off in (C) mode.

Although, I will seem him for the 4th, and will try C and S, to see if it's different.

Will keep you guys informed shortly.

Get him to start off in Sports+, it will be more fun.

I was just going by the sound of the idle and the ability to "creep" if you unbrake. I find that, as long as the transmission is in gear, there's some drag (on the engine) and the car will creep forward if you release the brake without giving it any throttle when it's idling. To me, that means that the clutch is partially engaged (or maybe it's just an effect similar to a torque-converter, given that it's a wet-clutch system). As I indicated, thinking about this is likely unnecessary.

BTW, this is also a reason to not use Sport+/Race modes for normal driving ... i.e., because they also increase the idle speed (and, of course, hold gears longer for higher RPMs).

My past two C63s act this way and it is 100% normal. The wet clutch tranny will feel like a manual with clutch slightly out when cold. Do like it at shows since you can kind of rev it up when reversing into a spot

This is something that irked me in the pre-facelift in C. Because it starts in 2nd gear it slips the clutch like crazy. It was very awkward. @user33 , the forward creep is simulated. Once you let go off the brakes, the clutch starts engaging, but as long as you stand on the brakes it is fully disengaged and there is no drag on the engine. Keeping it slightly engaged while on the brakes would wear the clutch unnecessary. 2019+ models with the new 9MCT always start in first gear, except in the new slippery mode and if you set the drivetrain to Reduced in I*. Much better in my opinion and AMG specifically did it to make the car more dynamic from a stop. It looks like many people disliked the 2nd gear start in C. For those who prefer the 2nd gear start around town, they can setup I* and put the drivetrain to Reduced or just use the Slippery mode.

its definitely normal and will do it when the transmission is cold . the clutch will engage very slowly the first time in comfort mode and gear 2. hopefully you will get used to it.
