2019 rear diffuser/ tailpipe swop now completed.

So, I’ve recently posted a few times on swopping out a 2018 rear diffuser to the facelift rear diffuser and bigger tailpipes. I had reservations as had an edition 1 lower spoiler ready to go but got to say I’m really pleased I went with the 2019 rear as the bigger tailpipes looks great!

I’ve already done the front grills, front spoiler, side skirts and rear spoiler and love the change.

Today I got my garage to do the rear swop. I help where I can. Said it would take an hour tops so they would squeeze me in. Hmm, could of been a bit optimistic!

Exhausts off easily, 4 bolts. Various pot rivets need drilling out and a couple of bolts. Some un clipping and eventually the rear diffuser comes off. Then more pot rivets to remove the brackets that hold the exhaust tips on. Need to unplug 2 rear sensors and boot opener.

Then first problem became apparent. Inside the diffuser is a plastic part and this contains the boot opener / gesture sensors. These didn’t line up with new diffuser. Not sure if the 19 has a different part, but after a bit of modding and a couple of pot rivets we got the part fitted, but not a simple swop and one to be aware of if you have gesture boot opening.

Tailpipes on. Two little tabs on each slide in and replace 2 screws per side.

Inner exhaust mounting bracket on both sides needed these drilling out and replacing.

went to refit and another problem. 2 small clips either side left and right, need cutting off as no slots on 18 bumper. No biggy, just cut them off. The diffuser had 2 screws provided so used these, 1 per side on the outer edges of the diffuser to secure.

Lastly, rear tray clips in on the sides and then add screws on the bottom to secure and finally push fit the last trim bit on that covers up the clips from the tray.

Anyway, wouldn't say this was a simple swop but all done. If you have gesture rear boot either buy the 2019 part of be prepared to modify. Overall took 2 hours with a ramp and 2 people ( well one mechanic, and me so maybe 1.5 people!) and very happy with results.

Couple of extras,

Rear spoiler is edition 1. I got this Oem piece that I believe to be the same as facelift c63s but could be wrong from cks performance for £290:ish. It’s the only item I’ve eve bought fro them as normally they over inflate MB prices and sell on. In this case I got lucky. They are now listing it for £600 so I’d check with MB what they are selling it for as bet it’s cheaper.

Rear diffuser is c63s facelift standard diffuser, also from merc. I can pm you my parts guy details if needed. Thought you had 19 so don’t you have this already?

You might also need a bumper bracket A2058855303 for sedan in addition to #1 and #2 above.

Beautiful write up, detail and car. I wish there was a nice write up like this for installing and fitting the facelift grille too (then we would be complete)!

yes this list is semi incomplete. i ended up just buying from a guy on ebay. his price was close enough to dealer price to not worry about the hassle of figuring out if it would fit.

Hi - the gesture unit mounts in the diffuser.

it has small slots and click into plastic tabs. Top tabs were fine and lined up. Bottom tabs didn’t. We tried making slots slightly wider but still wouldn’t line up. From memory I think we put two small screws in it to hold in place. They are right at the back underside and not visible.

Hi- thanks. It’s the standard merc edition 1 gloss back spoiler. I think it may be the same as the rear facelift spoiler.

Just a quick note to say thanks. Super helpful write up, helped heaps when doing mine.

By chance, can anyone confirm which bootlid spoiler I have on this? I'd like it in gloss black now too but would prefer to buy a replacement than paint over this. Can't seem to find one that looks the same.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi Robert, not receiving the pm for some reason, but sold the car now and all receipts with part numbers on went with the service folder so afraid I don’t have them anymore other than what listed in the thread.

Hi, just wrapping this thread up as after 2 and a bit years of enjoyable ownership as Ive sold the car mid December so won’t be around here much going forward. I tend to get a pm every month or so asking for part numbers so just to be clear I only have the part numbers listed in this thread.

Do have a coupe of parts if anyone U.K. based interested which I will pop in the classifieds.

ASR c63 exhaust flap module with 2 remote controllers ( one still with film on) 9 months old and can provide receipt. £240 posted next day.

BMC c63/ c63s air filters (pair). Brand new £115 posted.

I’m going to carry out this facelift retrofit for my 2017 coupe. CKS Performance carries a genuine Mercedes kit (link) with the facelift tailpipes, brackets and diffuser. However, judging from another post it seems there are other pieces required for a PFL to FL diffuser retrofit? If so, does anyone have the part numbers handy?

I may go with the CKS package but the other option I am considering is getting the required brackets and parts from Mercedes’ (the dealer), purchasing the facelift tailpipes separately (RW carbon sells them standalone) and then buying RW carbon’s full carbon FL diffuser or the DTM ‘big fin’ FL diffuser.

yeah I bought my grille from them which was fine but a multi-part package for $1k+ probably is not the move.

@Jimmy_c63s - you mentioned a while back you have a google doc with the part numbers for the coupe - are you able to share?
