I like the idea of AWD, especially if it’s like the GT 4 door system

I'm mostly just glad to read that it will still be a V-8. Somehow a V-6 C63 just wouldn't be a C63.

I hope no new draconian emissions laws emerge between now and then.

So far that's just them stating their expectation. AWD has been confirmed by the head of AMG, so that one is pretty much a given. Some kind of electrification has also pretty much been confirmed by AMG. The V8 on the other hand has not been confirmed at all. The EU fuel and emissions regulations are set to become significantly more stringent for 2020 and even more for 2021. That's already known. The kind of power plant going into future AMGs is entirely a factor of Daimler's ability to meet the average fuel economy standard across their entire fleet by selling enough low or zero emission vehicles to offset the higher polluting cars. This is all up in the air pretty much. All the German's are struggling to meet these new standards. VW is struggling the most currently. Audi had to suspend production of several of their S and RS models for 6+ months and re-release the S4/5 in the EU with a new diesel power plant and releasing the all-new S6/7 with the same diesel power plant. I just heard that there won't be a 2020 RS5 anymore. The facelift is due and it remains to be seen what they'll have to do to it to get it certified in the future. AMG is not immune to this at all. They might try to get their average down by selling lots of C43s and C53s to still be able to put a V8 in the C63. But just to give an idea of where the heads of the German managers are these days, Audi recently had a board meeting where they decided to start abandoning existing Audi values in order to avoid being fined for not meeting the new emission standards moving forward. The first result of that is the switch to diesel for all S models in the EU for now. USA is still getting petrol engines as diesel is a no go here. Here in the USA things will depend on whether the Trump admin succeeds in freezing the Obama admin's emission standards and voiding California's waiver to set their own standards. More and more states are combining forces with California and if you've read the news you'll probably know that several car manufacturers with BMW being to only German so far, have just struck a deal with California committing to meeting the aggressive future standards on a slightly relaxed timeline, but they are committed to reaching a fleet average mpg of a minimum of about 50 mpg by 2026. They are currently somewhere in the mid 30s, so this is no small feat.

I am sure Electrification (i.e. 48V mild hybrid) is confirmed and so is AWD (given that all automakers have realized that they are losing a good portion of sales in the Northern belt states without it). AWD also helps with performance, especially the 0-60 specs. Drift mode makes sense to get full RWD experience for tracks.

I'm however not entirely confident about the V8 Biturbo sticking around in the next-gen C63. I would love to see it stick around in W206 and rooting for it, but given the stricter emissions requirements at the fleet level (at least in Europe), it becomes harder to meet these criteria with a V8. Also given all the engineering being spent on developing the new Inline-6 for the *53 series and how much power they were able to add to the Inline-4 engines (A43), I would expect they would focus on getting similar performance figures (or better) as the W205 C63/C63S with the Inline-6. The sales numbers for the V8 based engines from Merc vs non-V8 might also be a deciding factor.

It is not entirely a bad thing to get more power out of an Inline-6 engine if they could still maintain both the performance and the engine/exhaust sound characteristics, but I'm sure there is going to be a lot of backlash before that becomes the norm

Good chance the next generation of c63's will be further affected my emission standards, apparently the a45s and cla45s are hit as well
