Has this been verified? I'd love to read more about that solution. Sorry, I don't follow this too closely, so just curious since that seems to be counter to what most car sites are noting in their rumors? If true, that sounds like a very interesting car.

 

There's no one article that spells it out, but there are several articles that talk about AMG developing a new V8 and that it's most likely based on the M139 just as the previous V8 was based on the M133. Then a few other articles discussing that AMG has said it will add hybrid tech and electrification to it's cars going forward. I just connected the dots myself. It seems like a plausible explanation. I guess we'll see.

Rokenr is one of the most reputable sources when it comes to automobile media, especially for MB/AMG. His source is most likely coming from the factory itself.

 

From what I’ve read, it sounds like the 2021 model year will still be the W205 platform, i.e. same as 2019-2020, 4.0 V8 facelift. In that sense, Roken’s video is confusing since he mentions “2021” but that could refer to model year or calendar year.

Whenever the W206 is released (MY2022?) that’s when we will see the 4 cylinder hybrid.

 

W206 will be a 2022 model in US. W206 is a 2021 model for Germany. So any information this early is mainly for a 2021 W206 for Germany.
