[initial] Velos tune review
Hi all,
I have a '17 C63S Coupe. I researched tunes for a while and I ended up with a, "stage 2" tune from Velos.
Why Velos? Other than Renntech, Velos seems to be the only prevalent tuner for these cars that doesn't crank the torque up in the mid-range as much as possible. The power delivery is more linear and that's what I was looking for, yet with solid gains. There's nothing wrong with a very beefy mid-range, but I enjoy linear delivery more. I was initially partial to Renntech, but I like the idea of having direct access to the tuner (Omar, in this case) and the potential for custom maps as I mod. So Velos it was. I purchased one of their refurbished MyGenius units with a 91 octane stage 2 tune which I initially thought was meant for cars with downpipes, but apparently their stage 2 can be for cars with or without downpipes depending on what you tell Omar.
I initially dealt with Oliver who was very nice and helpful, answering all of my questions about the tune on the phone. Omar was on vacation when I first received the MyGenius flash device. I checked in via email a day before Oliver had said Omar would follow up, to make sure I could still expect it by that date, and Omar almost immediately answered and the modded ECU image followed the next day with instructions on how to flash. The whole process went pretty smoothly. One thing to note is the, "dashboard on" position, referenced by the MyGenius device during the flash, is actually the second click in the key rotation, not the first. It took me a bit to figure this out.
As for the tune itself, it is definitely making a noticeable amount more power and torque across the board. The stock traction issues of this car had been largely solved for me by installing 305 PS4S in the rear, but now it just absolutely roasts the tires if I give it gas in second gear and pulls super hard from basically any RPM. It's harder to tell a big difference in the upper RPM because it gets to redline in such a hurry from the mid-range compared to stock. It's definitely more responsive too.
One area I didn't expect to find a difference, but did, was sound. It's not a huge change, but I can hear a bit of spool noise and there's more induction noise at WOT with the windows down, I imagine just because the turbos are spinning higher and there's more vacuum in the airboxes.
All said and done, I'm very happy after day 1 with their tune. I'm going to setup a dyno day to do a before and after of the tune soon and I'll try to hit the track as well. I was tempted to do downpipes as well, but I just don't think more power in this car would be very useful for almost anything other than highway hunting or standing 1/2+ mile runs.
I will update this thread with any more feedback or developments over time.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking around for about 6 months for a tune and haven't completely settled on one yet. I'll keep all this in mind!

Does anyone know the differences between something like a Velos/Renntech VS. a cheaper competitor like Racechip?
The Velos sounds very enticing!

Many customers lease their cars and/or are concerned about warranty and thus do not want to reflash, which always leaves a trail behind even if flashed back to stock, and find the lower cost and diagnostic invisibility of piggyback tunes preferable.

Velos/Renntech are flash maps, e.g. changing the factory programming directly on the ECU, while something like RaceChip is a piggyback system that attaches to boost sensors to increase boost pressure. The JB4 on the other hand is a more advanced piggyback that also includes fuel control, CANbus, and host of useful features like boost by gear (to lower boost/torque in lower gears to aid in traction), advanced safety systems, multiple maps including maps for race gas or E85 mixtures, etc.

Several users has problems, I had to tow car to dealer, do ECU reset here etc. since jb4 removal problems are gone. It was not working well, it has also problems with moisture getting inside etc but still you come to thread about different product tune to shill your product..
I think you have few fake accounts here in mbworld.org with "happy customers"
