panamerica a grille distronic problem

i have a panamericana genuine merc grille retrofitted to my car. recently i’ve had a problem when cruise control is activated the distronic works perfectly when approaching a vehicle in front but it’s also slowing the car when overtaking a vehicle. dealer says no problem with the distronic but says it’s probably the “aftermarket” grille. has anyone had a similar problem. thanks

as I except, , that s the problem. You have to use original star. The material is special made for millimeter wave radar penetration.

why would that be a problem if it is an OEM grille and OEM star?

In the 1.5 year ive had the car I think I only used distronic once and noticed that the car hesitates and brakes unnecessarily when it comes to overtaking a vehicle so that is why I am curious as to why would that be an issue if the new grill is OEM which in my case it is. Would the dealer just have to re-calibrate the system maybe?

I doubt distronic is working just like that, no problem sounds from me. Mine do the same hesitates like that. Its not AI like LEVEL 5 self driving car. BTW DTR sensor calibrate themselves over the time, and no software update so far.if you force dealer to calibrate it, some times even worse.

I guess its just one of those Mercedes quirks errr... I had distronic on a 2012 Dodge previously which worked flawlessly and here I am in this mercedes where the car hesitates so much that I have to turn distronic off.

If its really bad, there is two possible, your camera is out off calibrate, have you ever changed windshield? If not then check alignment.

windscreen not changed I had a good bodyshop fit oem grille and badge. supplier says they have retrofitted many and had no problems. I tried it again yesterday and the distronic display shows a car in front when there is a car in left hand lane but nothing in front in my lane it seems to think theres a car directly in front. other than that it works perfectly when theres a car directly in front. bodyshop said the radar is fitted to the car not the grille so did not distub it when fitting grille.. I often get a warning that sensors are dirty even when the car is clean

It's the way the car is designed. Namely, you'll notice that the distance between you and the vehicle you come up on will adjust ~1 car length per mph. When it senses 6 car lengths doing 60mph, the car will slow so you don't run up its crack. It will stay there until the vehicle moves over or you do. And, then it will pick the speed up to where it was.

problem is it thinks there’s a car in front when there isn’t and slows the car down

Because they buy compatible grille, not original.
