2020 C63S coupe comes with PS Cup 2's

I pick it up tomorrow. Got in to the dealership today. Seems there was an oversight on options. I sent my wife and son to order the car. The agent messed up with the Night Package. So, I'll be wrapping a few places like around the door frame. I blew up the pic showing the rear cornerpanel of the car and was able to decipher the tire markings. Seems when I paid for the high performance tire upgrade, it came with the Pilot Sport Cup 2's. Good news for the hot summer months. But tricky for wet and cold Houston weather. It goes in the shop Monday morning for a full satin wrap, redo the chrome exhaust tips and window tint. I don't believe a ceramic coat on top of a satin wrap would work or would look good

You can look at doing a ceramic coating designed for wraps, looking to have my xpel stealth covered with carpro skin

there are a few other brands who make similar products

Nice ride! Yes, the "AMG extreme performance sport tires" option replaces the PSS with the Cup 2. What were you expecting this option would do? It's meant for folks who plan to track the car.

It not worth the option if you don’t track the car. It dangerous on a rainy day and the thread wear is only rate 180 vs Pilot SS 300.

congratz on the purchase,

its crazy to me you couldn't find time to go in and option a 100k car to get it exactly how you want. you could have just emailed the salesman if you really didn't have time.

anyway the tips you wont be able to wrap due to the heat. You could powder coat but IMO looks horrible. Just buy new black night package tips. will run you about $500 at a good dealer. if you cant get that PM me. I can get the tips and ship if needed.

beauty, congrats. i was going to do a satin wrap however after seeing my car (same color as yours) in person, i fell in love. i think this color is beautiful the way it is and will not look as good wrapped in satin. your car, your decision of course. no matter what you decide, shes a beaut.

Nah, no all-season or runflat crap on the C63. The only car at this power level that comes with all-season tires that I'm aware of is the new Corvette, because Corvette customers demanded it. Pretty much everything else at this level and higher comes with performance summer tires. All-season and runflats is at the C43 level. It's all in the order guide, too. All wheel options for the C63 and C63S come with performance tires (option code R01) and tire mobility kit (no spare).

I'm picking um my 2020 C63s convertible today. Car is white with blue roof - do you or anyone know how or where I could have my brake calipers painted in blue (red now)? I live in Southern California near Woodland Hills.

Brucey, are you still running Cup 2's on the wife's C63s? How have they been as daily driver tires?
I'm looking at getting stock size Cup 2's on my coupe and plan on tracking my car on a road circuit but I'd like to know how these tires are going for you as daily drivers? Is the wife happy with them? Or have you changed?

Brucey? Oh, don't do that... Shorty after I purchased the car, while it was getting PPF and ceramics, I had Mich SS's installed. Kinda ticked me off since I had asked for the PS4S tires.

The Pilot's are sitting idle. I tried selling them, but got into a bad scene with a potential buyer regarding S&H. I may install them next month when it gets really hot here in Houston.

I did actually. I had 'designed' the car. And, for whatever reason, my wife and son went to the dealership to order it. They, with the sales agent, messed up and forgot the distance sensor option (WHY do we need to pay for this option is beyond my reasoning), the Night Package option and the front ventilated seats.

So now, we are VERY careful when pulling into a parking place. I can't change the ventilation issue. Regrading the night package, I had the chrome lip in the front wrapped as well as the window trimming and the exhaust tips right after I bought it. However, over the last six months, I have been slowly purchasing the OEM Night Package pieces for the front (there's three), a set of OEM Night Package exhaust tips and I notice CKS sells the window trim pieces for about $800.

This will complete the look I'm after.

Please keep me updated! I too have been trying to go for the "night package" look. I wrapped my roof, side trim pieces, rear lip, and the front lip.

So you ended up wrapping your exhaust tips? Have you found the heat from the exhaust warping your wrap?

PS4S are seemingly hard to come by, maybe due to the beer flu. I switched to Bridgestone RE71R’s and have yet to miss my old go to, the PS4S. Be careful with the sport cup 2’s. Great tires, ONLY when you’ve properly warmed them up.

I had asked the owner of the place to have them powder-coated. It looks like a thick material was used, like it was 'dipped' in something. Anyway, the heat from the exhaust has caused the material to bubble around the edges of the exhaust tips. That is why I went OEM. It's also for the same reason I will not use this shop again. I asked for something, I paid for that something and that something was not done properly. No second chances. I don't have time for nonsense like this. Not sure about you, but I've worked hard for my money and have a bad taste in my mouth that 'steal it' from me by doing half-a$$ed work.

Call RBD LA. They only work on super high-end cars.

Earlier this year, I did a track day (C63 S sedan) with Cup 2 tires where 1 session had a constant light rain. I had, what felt like, "zero traction."

Later, when analyzing the data I logged, I could see that anything over 0.6 G "static" lateral load (i.e., with only maintenance throttle in a curve) was resulting in a 4-wheel slide ... i.e., the Cup 2's wet grip was limited to 0.6 G. When warmed up, on the same track, I can get 1.25 G lateral grip using the same data-logging equipment. I guess that's why sudden WOT on wet roads, even at highway speeds, was resulting in wheelspin.

If you're running Cup 2's you really need to be careful on wet roads. BTW, for comparison, my PS4S tires are good for 0.9 G lateral in the wet (but only about 1.1 G on dry).

Good info and feedback on Cup 2's mate. Thank you.

How would you recommend warming up Cup 2's for spirited street driving without "weaving" around and looking like douche? 😐

Yeah, dry and wet grip are mutually exclusive. Basically dry grip is increased by providing more contact patch, meaning getting rid of grooves in street tires to have more compound, but the grooves is what evacuates the water from under the tires to give it wet grip and avoid hydroplaning. Moving into the extreme performance and streetable track tire categories will come with less wet grip and higher risk of hydroplaning. Slicks are the ultimate dry grip tires, but they have zero wet grip and basically hydroplane immediately. The PS4S is in the maximum performance tire category and offers a balance between high performance dry and wet grip. For wet and dry street use, it's pretty much as good as it gets. Won't give you as much dry grip as an extreme performance or streetable track tire, but on the other hand you won't hydroplane with only a bit of water on the road and have excellent stopping power in the wet. The PS4S has the shortest wet braking distance among its competitors. Honestly, braking is much more important in the wet, than acceleration traction. It's the same argument for all-season vs dedicated winter tires. A lot of folks don't consider how important it is to stop the car, so you see a bunch of folks putting all-season tires on their AWD cars, and then end up hitting a curb, because stopping comes all down to the tires.

To warm up a performance tire you essentially have to drive for a while. The faster the speeds you can drive, the quicker they warm up, or hit up some canyon roads to really work them. Just commuting to work or getting the groceries won't warm them up to the point where they perform as advertised. Even the PS4S performs noticeably better once they get up to around 140F, but I only reach those temperatures in the canyons or on the track.

That pretty much changes my decision to order those tires for a build, even though it's one of the only options that's such a value seeing as one Sport Cup 2 is at least $600.
