Ignition button upgrade for facelift C63S?

Thinking to replace the ignition button to add some color in the cockpit (red carbon adds at least +20 HP right?)

Problem is all the ones I’ve found reference the pre-facelift (2018 or prior), which pop off easily to allow for a key fob to insert. This has changed in the 2019 facelift along with a new key fob design, which I have. Anyone know if the pre-facelift style buttons will fit the facelift lighted button?

Those don't pop off like the PFL. On the PFL models, you were able to insert the key in case the FOB lost battery/low battery, on the FL they don't. So you're stuck with what came on the car...at least for now.

Ah thanks. Figure I ask before trying to pry this thing off and break something. Oh well, I’ll just have to keep an eye out for future accessories.

do you really need a whole new button though ... could easily paint (or plastidip/wrap if noncommital) the surround on the FL button easily. Might not even need to remove yhe assy. Just a thought.

Mostly echoing what's been said already. The FL has a new and more modern ignition system along with the latest technology key fobs that includes motion sensors in the fob which automatically stop them from sending out a signal after two 2 minutes unless it senses motion, so nobody can relay the signal from the key fob sitting in the house and steal the car from one's driveway. The push start button is now just a push button with illumination and in case you haven't noticed it pulsates like a heartbeat when you get in the car to entice you to start the engine. Kinda cool. If the key fob battery is dead, there's a spot under the removable cup holders on the passenger side where to place the dead fob in order to still start the car. On the pre-FL that button was removable which is I believe what turned the mechanism from an insert your key and turn mechanism to a push button mechanism, but that thing had a tendency to get lost if you ever removed it. I was never a particular fan of the old system and fob.

Objection, your honor! Speculative.

Not only is there little reason to ever remove it, but its not hard to keep track of in my experience. Plus I have an extra the dealer gave me.

Haha.... they probably gave you an extra one because they know these things get lost. The first dealership where I test drove a 2018 C63S removed them from all the cars in their inventory so they don't end up somewhere under the seat or who knows where by the time the car gets sold.

Yeah, no complaints about the new key fob or functionality, my motivation is purely a stylistic one. Something about a big button that sticks out a bit like the pre-FL rather than flat (and is preferably red) just seems fitting and inviting for a car like this. That said, the new style is not at all bad, and not something I will lose sleep over.

Yeah, part of me wishes they had placed it on the steering wheel like in the Audi R8, however I take the AMG Drive Unit DYNAMIC SELECT knob over having to press a button on the steering wheel multiple times to cycle through all the modes to get to the one I want and the ability to push it in order to immediately activate the individual mode.

Absolutely love the AMG Drive Unit. I usually open the exhaust and disable start/stop, then once engine is up to temp I'll use the right side to switch to I* mode. With the FL steering wheel, I don't even really use the buttons on the center stack anymore unless it's to activate the camera or something. I'll admit I thought the AMG Drive Unit was a gimmicky thing when I first saw it, but now it's become so routine that when I get into another AMG I really miss it.

Totally agree. It changes the driving experience more than one might expect. I also barley use the buttons in the center console. Mainly just to open the exhaust and turn off ECO start/stop immediately after starting the car with the emotion start. The two buttons are conveniently located right next to each other. I have the transmission and exhaust mapped to the left two soft buttons for subsequent use when I'm changing between drive modes that close the exhaust again and to quickly engage manual mode for the transmission when I'm not using Individual mode where I have it set to M. In the canyons I change one of the soft buttons to control the suspension for when I'm hitting some rough sections, but otherwise I have the car setup to my liking in I* and use Comfort for slow driving around town, traffic and long distance cruising.

I assume the facelift button can’t be installed into a prefacelift GLC43 with keyless go?

You technically don't need that button on the pre-facelift as long as you have keyless start, if I recalled correctly (not sure if memory serves) someone literally stuck their finger and turned and the engine started up.

Oh I know that - I’ve already played about. It’s just a nicer looking button that’s all 🙂

I understand, you will probably need lots of wiring, the ignition button lights up after all on the facelift, and then obviously coding, anything is possible with money (well, in most cases : )
