Multiple Cylinder Misfire
I took my 2015 c63s to a track day yesterday. Before I started pushing very hard at all, I had cylinders dropping out and engine light on. These would reset after a shutdown of the car however it continued throughout the whole day. Very frustrating when on a good lap and more frequent when over 5000 revs.
I spoke with Mercedes whilst there and a mechanic advised the coils over heat and can cause misfires. I logged into car with a another track attendees adapter and there were multiple misfires on almost every cylinder.
anyone else ever had this? This car is supposed to be able to handle the odd track day without too much trouble I would think so I’m pretty disappointed. I can’t see any reference to this problem in w205 forums.
Apparently is quite common according to some people at track (a guy who had been to many Mercedes drive days) and one suggested an local AMG tuner that could basically retune and program the limp mode out. Thoughts.?

I was with another Merc driver yesterday who attended a Merc drive day with all the new AMG models which he paid thousands of dollars to attend and he said the S Class went into limp mode all day. In general terms I agree with you though which is why I bought the car!
Cheers
Hopefully Mercedes can get it sorted out , it’s surprising they are still having these issues since the engine came out in 2015.

I have had word today that I had 2 coil failures. Merc are aware of the issue apparently but I now have to go through the trouble shooting method to confim. i.e. They have now changed coils to other side to see if fail. Seems like a waste of time to me.
Anyway you can send or post up the Warranty Recall? In Australia we sometimes dont get these things right.I would like to show them the recall and get them all replaced as Im under a dealer warranty. Cheers

They swapped the new ones to each side. They found a couple of o ring leaks which they replaced. Mechanic took it for a drive and couldn’t get it to fault.
I just took it for a drive in race mode and faulted it within about 30 secs. LOL,
Will take it back again!
Annoying!
i think my issue is now the fuel regulator into the cylinder bank. They’re still working on it!

In case I get misfires need to know where to get coils and plugs from
Turns out the previous owner had always used 94 octane, which is rare in this area. It's likely that the issue was that so few people pay the extra for 94 octane that, at most pumps, it sits in the service-station tank for a long time.
The only 94 octane I buy is from a station close to the race track ... and it gets _lots_ of customers! Since the C63 S gets only 4-5 mpg (imperial gallons!), I fill at least 2 times every track day. $;-))
