Roof Panel

Replaced in 2017 after it flew off in Florida. Again in 2018 in New York when I saw it starting to lift and had was crazy wind noise when driving. Car spent most of 2019 in NY in a garage. Car is back in FL and lifting again come end of July 2020. Warranty expired Nov of ‘18 and now I’m on an extended warranty till Nov ‘21. MBUSA is claiming this is a trim piece and will not cover the cost of it. Labor is about $900, part is about $740. After FL tax, comes out to around $1,800 to get fixed. Corporate looked into my claim but denied any assistance because of a previous goodwill gesture back in 2017. They helped me fix a rim that a dealer in FL curbed and refused to fix and take responsibility for. Total cost was about $110 for repair. So they took that and said they will not offer any other assistance.

I'm waiting on a quote from a body shop but want to know what color yours was resprayed in. Ta

I don't think it was done because I was under warranty. The SA told me they inspect your panel and if it is of old heritage they have to replace it - its safety issue as some apparently came loose and where flying off. Not just a visual issue. Mine was already replaced as I had bubbles too, but SA told me MB instructed them to replace again anyway. Not sure if its an official "recall" though.

Applied for goodwill replacement
Looking at the back of the cover part no. A2057803300 it's definitively a plastic part.

Just an update. My car was out of warranty by 3 whole years but Mercedes Australia still fixed it for me. Very impressed with the help and urge others to contact their dealership if this has happened to theirs too.

How the heck do you get this piece off? anyone have a "how to"? Mine is doing the same thing and not sure how well it can be repainted on the body. Found the piece online for $500 but not sure what Mercedes would charge for labor. out of warranty

What's the best way to clean it? Old water marks are still there, I only notice under light but it's annoying to see it after a clean

How's the fit so far. Looks like its been few years since you replaced it. I have recently cracked the same part on my GLC 43. Wondering if I should buy the part & get if fixed from the body shop as well. Which is small pinch to the pocket than going to the dealer.

Back from the dead .................................................. .......
Unfortunately the roof panel is starting to fade (not surprising considering that its been 110+F for the past few weeks). Can the original roof panel be removed & repainted safely or should I get a replacement & get that repainted and re-cleared? Thanks.
