Does any one know how many serpentine belts (rubber belts) and idler pulleys our cars have? I was looking at the M177 engine production video and saw 2 separate belt systems and I just want to confirm. I been having problems with a tapping sound coming from the belt and pulleys only during winter time cold starts and been to the dealer twice before, first time for a chirping noise and after replacing tensioner, it turned to a tapping sound like a bad bearing or something and then replaced a idler pulley and sound was still present on cold start. Now during warmer times and summer, the sound is gone but i'm sure it will come back again when winter comes along.
I believe we have 2 belts. I’m having both changed on Saturday because I have a cold start squeal. They are going to check my pullies too and see if there are any other issues while doing so since my CPO ends in July. Belts aren’t covered under the CPO since they are considered “wear and tear,” so its worth spending the couple hundred to have them changed so the tech and investigate to see if there is any larger issue going on that is difficult to see without the front end taken apart. My car is a ‘15 ED1 sedan with 38k miles.
I would not screw around. I would be at the dealership and sitting on the service managers head until my problem was solved.
I'm a college student and didn't have time at the moment but I should've went back. I just hope if it comes back, its before the last day of this year because that's when my warranty ends lol

Yea I had a cold start squeal also and they replaced my belt tensioner which resolved the issue but then the bad pulley/ tapping sound came. I will upload the video i took in January in case someone else also has the same sound. Any idea why the sound would only come during colder weather and not in warmer?
This is my car making the sound, its hard to tell but its clearly coming from the front of the engine and not a sound the engine itself is making. It only happens for 2 min after cold start and the sound increases with rpm. Sound is completely gone after idling for few min or driving it for a few seconds and never comes back for the rest of the day
I also had startup squeal which would go away after couple of minutes, but no ticking. I had the belt and tensioner changed at 38K. I cannot recall if the belt was covered by warranty but the tensioner certainly was.
C63 M177 has 2 belts, 2 tensioners, and 3 idler pulleys. I attempted to get my car repaired at a dealership.
Service Manager at Feldmann Imports in Bloomington, MN quoted me a price to complete the job. I took a screenshot of the text message.
Mercedes dealerships have proven to be untrustworthy.
To my surprise they didn't replace the idler pulleys. There is a sound coming from in there, those idler pulleys should have been replaced. These people at Feldmann Imports are incompetent.
(4 wheel alignment was completed as well.)
The other dealership, Sears Imports in Minnetonka, MN tried to convince me that I needed to replace the rear suspension. That is why I had the alignment done at the other dealership- I wanted to verify the claim. It was a lie.
Mercedes dealerships are not to be trusted.
Then here I am, it looks like I'll have to pay another $700 in labor for the same repair. Unless I just do it myself- Which is what I should have done in the first place.
Not only that but Feldmann Imports scratched my car. These dealerships are careless, they don't give a damn about people's cars or anything- They are there to steal from people and that's it.

Did it fixed the problem? I made an appointment to bring in the car fir the same problem
@Klinh@anwar_hamoude I would recommend finding a reputable independent or euro performance shop for service as it is way cheaper and the quality of work is the same if not better and you can talk to the mechanic directly about the issues. I brought it to my MB indy mechanic for the replacement of the 2 idler pulleys and belt tensioner pully but there is still some sound during cold starts in cold weather but has been drastically reduced and the annoying high pitched squeal is gone. For the 2 pulleys and 1 tensioner costed me 420$ parts and labor. Knowing that the sound is coming from the accessories and not the engine and even when getting the work done, my belt looked fine and all pulleys had no sign of glazing or visible damage, I can live with a slight sound during cold start since it is nowhere as annoying as before and sound goes away after a few min.
