C63 S AMG Sedan vs Coupe

Hello,

So I‘ve been struggeling back and forth between the C63 S AMG Coupe vs Sedan Question. I like the look of the Coupe but drive around with friends regularly. I think that‘d be a problem with the Coupe. Are the backseats even usable for average sized adults?

Also can anyone tell me if there is a „performance difference“ between does 2 types? Sound? If I didn‘t have any friends I‘d probably go with a Coupé. It‘s just so hard haha.

Can someone answer my questions? Thanks.

Comes down to what you need. Same sound, same engine, etc...coupe may be a little less weight but likely inconsequential. Coupe has wider wheel base, which is nice. But if you are like me and have more than 2 people in the car regularly and use it daily you appreciate having 4 doors (not just size of seat but also how to get in and 2 more doors "helps" a lot ). Simple as that. If you don't, Coupe is great.

The rear seats of the coupe are absolutely usable, but perhaps depends on your situation. Getting in and out isn't elegant, especially for somebody who has some junk in the trunk. In my case it's also a bit more difficult because of the wider aero package side sills. The opening between the seat and the pillar isn't all that wide. The seat automatically moves forward, but you can move it further manually. For some reason it doesn't automatically move as far forward as it can. So I always let it move forward and then manually move it all the way to make it easier to get in and out. I usually have max 3 passengers (including the driver) in the car and that works pretty well. While I was in Europe with the car, my parents in their 70s came along all the time. My dad had no issues climbing in the back. He's a bit shorter than I am and I'm 5'11". I'm also somewhat in a favorable position, because my wife is a compact 5'1" Asian woman and a lot of our friends are Asian. The front passengers do have to move their seats forward to give enough legroom to the rear passengers. That's usually not an issue for the front passenger, but with my normal driving position, nobody, even the smallest adult can sit behind me. I have to move my seat forward to a less than ideal driving position, but it's still doable.

Performance-wise the coupe has a bit of an edge. It's slightly faster in the official 0-60 times and also 1/4 mile based on available tests. It has a 10% shorter final drive, so it makes 10% more torque at the wheels. Official 0-60 is 0.1s faster for the coupe. It also has fatter tires, so that helps with traction. Handling is also better due to being lower and wider, and it does a better job putting the power down due to the unique rear axle and as mentioned the fatter tires. Tires obviously can be changed, but the coupe accommodates wider tires than the sedan due to its wider track in the rear. The coupe is definitely meant to be the sportiest variant of the three body styles. AMG gave it some extra attention and you see it used whenever the track is involved. The AMG Driving Academy uses coupes at their events, so that should tell you something.

At the end of the day, I bought the car primarily for myself and not my friends or family. If anybody wants to ride along, they'll make due. So far nobody has complained. I'm just not a sedan person. They look way too bland for my taste. Coupe buyers tend to look for more of a standout styling and a car that looks the part. Sedan buyers tend to wanna fly under the radar in a sleeper car.

Coupe back seats are usable getting in and out is a *****. The sedan rear seats don't offer much more room than the coupes, and I wouldn't call them comfortable either, just much easier to access.

Coupe is heavier. Coupe looks better. W205 63 Coupes have wider fenders compared to lesser W205 coupe models. Coupes have wider track and handle better. Sedans do not have wider fenders in rear.

Buy the coupe tell your friends to suck it up or buy their own cars LOL.

if its going to be just you most of the time, coupe is great and the coupe owners have made their points already.

Sedan is much more user friendly for passengers and has smaller doors so tight parking is somewhat easier, gives up little to nothing (real world street driving) to coupe in performance, and also is more sleeper if you like to avoid attention sometimes. Sedan also has a tougher, more "muscle car" proportions than coupe IMO.

funny how a question about coupe vs sedan always ends up in a dissing match of one is "better, faster, nicer" than the other.....

Coupe is a meaty girl that likes to party at clubs while the sedan is a sophisticated gal that likes to wine taste.

Nice pic....well, there are nice things on both but I do like the sedan rear and overall body lines a lot. And I do like the wider stance/wheel base on the coupe as well as the longer doors (but I need 4 of them to be practical). One thing I don't like on either is the driver seat ergonomics...too high up, to straight up...I drive my sons coupes (F32 right now) and it is so much better. But cant get it all.

Out of curiosity, which seats do you have? I find with the AMG Performance Seats, the ergonomics is great. I have them all the way down and I feel like I'm encased in a cockpit in my coupe.

I have the Performance seats too. I am 6'3"...its not the seats as they are nice but the angle of your legs and foot based on the seat position..I have them on lowest setting too and little angled up to support my legs ..I used to get cramps in legs and calves when I first had it and drove for 4-5hours ...I now got used to it and use cruise control much more to relax but its too angled, not enough "forward" stretch. In all the coupes my son drives and not a C-class its much, much better. Really like the ergonomics in his current F32 coupe.

Okay I will play along...LOL

I like coupes better as performance cars...just what I like! I just like their look better with the wide rear end and the overall profile of the car...it just looks meaner to me!

I have the Performance seats in my coupe and I fit great (I am 6'4 and all legs).
Also because of my height (legs) when I drive my sedan (W204 C250 is my daily) I literally sit behind the door beam...I have to lean up to look left...LOL.
And it is actually easier for me to get into my coupe than into my W204 because the seat is so far back.

I am sure the sedan C63S is a blast to drive and is a badass car as well as a sleeper to some extent but I am a coupe guy!

Just my 2 cents!

Oh, I see. Yeah, I'm 5'11" so no such issues. The leg area is actually perfect. I used to get a cramp in my lower leg with my Audis because VW/Audi places the brake pedal too high relative to the throttle. BMW and Mercedes place them properly so my cramp is completely gone.

Just to add fuel to the fire, people like the rears of the sedan vs the coupe from what i'm hearing. Now put a mode carbon spoiler on the coupe and it just skyrockets in the looks department. I want someone in here to find a sexier picture of the sedan's rear over a coupe that has a mode carbon spoiler.

Edit: I may have shot myself in the foot, but this looks pretty damn sexy

Beautiful photo. Evening light with the last daylight fading away. Last daylight on the horizon appears as your running lights. Very artistic.
