Heads Up On Fuel Blending

Hi All,

After a lot of Fuel testing on our platform and prior use think it's about time to share my finding to being able to make your car into a rocket and keeping it happy.
Yes have lots of mods on mine but our cars are very smart, the better fuel you can give it the more timing advance it will give you and more power.
Running a JB4 you can play with the fuel delivery, max out the LP and HP fuel pumps. Even without your car being on a JB4 will advance timing on upping octane but have to be mindful of AFR's
So I use a blend based on 20 liter jerry cans of.
NOTE do not run the following blend without advancing the fuel delivery.
1. E85 = 7.5 litres
2. Pump 98 (Australian spec) = 7.5 litres
3. Toluene = 4 litres
4. Methanol = 1 litre

Result is on average 12 degrees more timing. Data logging via JB4.

Bringing the Octane up to 106. There is a lot more to it than octane (knock inhibitor) like fuel density and burn rate, temp.
Toluene is a beast on octane boosting and is a aromantic not and alcohol, will not lean the AFR's out like E85 but blending. the 2 together and happy days Toluene burns hotter and expels very dense exhaust gases that will spin turbos up like rockets. Its has a lot of energy P/P/Million
You can go as high as 30% Tol but there is always a down side.

Without a JB4 to adjust the fuel trims but say with a ECU tune and then further modes like pipes and intake I would recommend the following which I have used.

Blend 20% of E85 with the highest octane pump fuel you can get.
Blend 20% Toluene.

Have used these blends for over 25 years on many cars. Turbo and Supercharged motors benefit the most.

Here in British Columbia we only can get 91 octane and it's worse than the 91 you'd see in the western states, like Cali 91. I've recently started supplementing it with 10-15 percent e85. I believe our tank is 66 litres so on my first time I put in 8 litres of e85. On the stock tune I could definitely feel it not pulling timing. I just went with a 91 octane tune yesterday and will continue to do it. It's a bit of a hassle with only having two e85 pumps in the province and also having to figure out how much gas you're going to need on the fill up. I believe when the gas light comes on we need 52 litres to be full but I don't like getting that low in the tank.

Good post, blowoff.
When you say advance fuel delivery, you mean FoL setting in JB4?
12* more timing ... than what? can you post JB4 logs running your fuel cocktail?

With 30% ethanol /93 oct mix - running JB4 map 4 - I usually see between 12 - 18* timing on ign1.

Greets,

so, wow

Toluene.

Are you Nitrating your toluene ?? hehe

Damn Dude
I thought I was being weird carrying a gallon of M5 from VP racing around with me for fillups

10% with 93 shell nitro I ran that blend for quite awhile. Allows for quite a few extra degrees

So, I know for a fact that a 2007 mazda will have big issues with Methanol corrosion at higher concentrations.
and that the HPFP with start to collect a black goo with much more than a 3/9 gal blend of E85.

Are the GLA tank and lines coated with a better (flexfuel) material?

This JB4 you speak of, what is it, and how is the magic applied ?

Do the neighbors wonder what you're doing with a hazmat suit on while refueling?

Thats funny ! Yes its like the nutty professor fuel blending, please step outside the garge with that cigarate
Here is a link to the JB4 Forum for our cars.

Here is the info you need on the JB4
https://burgertuning.com/products/me...mg_c63_e63_jb4

Blend up 100 liters at a time. Once you get the hang of it, not too bad.
Yes using FoL feature on the JB4. 12 degrees advance on 98 pump.
Cocktail blend first 2, last E40
Note still playing around with the BMS (Burger Motor Sports) BCM (boost control module) setting to flatten things out.

Here is a Base Log on pump 98, no additives. Note the lower boost and less timing.
Within the Logs Ign 1 the reddish line is timing.

That is quite the setup, appreciate the links !

I like graphs myself, but they don't transfer well. I'd love to see a csv log with RPM, IGN, boost, KR and WGDC.

While I get busy reading your links
thanks again
