The New AMG GT Black Series is ugly

The GT-S and GT-R are so much better looking.

I think it looks pretty good, here are some better screen shots.

I love it personally. However, the last of sound in all the early videos released from AMG concerns me for a car like this. I wish they’d spin AMG off as a separate company to skirt the OPF regulations like they did with Ferrari. Wishful thinking but really missing what the sound from a car like this would truly sound like pre-regulations with the flat-plane crank.

At least they're actually real exhaust tips.

Ferrari is starting to put particulate filters on its cars. The 812 has them.

https://corporate.ferrari.com/en/fer...spider-returns

The high pressure injection system also improves nebulisation of the injected fuel thus dramatically reducing the amount of particulates emitted when the catalytic converter is warming up, and the fitment of a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) together with the Stop&Start On the Move strategy, which cuts and restart the engine while the car is on the move, ensures the engine complies with all emissions regulations.

Fair enough, I had heard otherwise. Maybe it was Lamborghini? Anyways, it just sucks! Lol.

The styling is busy for sure, but I do like the aggressive nature of it all together, and of course it's a BS, so it kind of gets a pass haha.

I think for what it is, it looks pretty good. I didn't realize at first until I saw some videos, all the black parts are exposed carbon fiber, except for the trunk, which is gloss black painted carbon fiber. Supposedly it looks menacing in person and definitely resembles the GT3. I think it's disappointing in other areas, though. The flat plane V8 sounds lame with all the restrictions they have to live with and flat planes are typically high revving engines, which this one is not. I was expecting them to do something more akin to the high revving turbo V8 in McLarens, to give it much more of a Motorsport character. Really doesn't invoke much excitement seeing and hearing it drive. I mean in general I'm kinda done with the GT to be honest. It's like the 911, so many versions of the same car and one less usable on public roads than the other one. This one will go into many collector garages and rarely driven. For those who do drive it, it only really makes sense for the track.

Happy to see AMG making a jump with this new “M178 LS2” with a flat plane crank and twin scroll turbos. Now it just needs a proper exhaust to uncork it so we can hear what a shrieking FPC V8 from AMG sounds like!

The looks are growing on me a bit, I think the silver/black two-tone is what really kills it for me - I think it’ll look better with darker colors where the contrast isn’t so drastic with the carbon/gloss black everywhere.

And that ****... I know it’s all purposeful and functional, but man is it ugly.

My favorite Black Series still remains the SL65 Black. Absolutely menacing styling, huge fender flares, crazy power and torque from a V12. That was the first black series that really did it for me.

Overall, I like it. I find the back end, especially the rear diffuser with the exhaust a bit busy, but otherwise looks great. Can wait to see some real reviews with it driven aggressively.

Car looks great but this is a tragedy. Flat plane V8’s usually sound incredibly exotic, I really hate these Euro regulations.

WHAT was that? Does not sound like a 720 hp car at all. There is almost no sound to it.

Looks like PFL cars will be the last ones to represent AMG in the sound department.

Yep, get used to it. This is how Lambos etc. will sound in about 3 years. This is what I was getting at above. If AMG didn't tell everybody that it was a flat plane, I don't think anybody would notice. It really is a tragedy. My understanding is they primarily did the flat plane to get the engine response they desired with the bigger turbos and all, it would have just been much more laggy otherwise.

I have to agree that if they didn’t say it had a FPC I would just think it’s another M178 that’s been corked with particulate filters.

To me, the move to twin scroll turbos is a bigger indicator that they needed better response with 700+ HP. I don’t see how the FPC would help much in the area of response - I would normally say FPC’s are happier to rev, but this only bumps redline 200 rpms higher to 7200 rpm. This thing should have been an 8k rpm V8 TT, why even bother with a FPC. 4 liters is small enough to rev to the moon... take advantage of the FPC and new firing order and shift the power band UP!

AMG take note: See the M840T 4.0l McLaren V8’s 8000+ rpm redline.

It helps with response, because FPC doesn't require counterweights, so less rotational mass, which is also why they are easier to rev high, but they don't run as smooth.

The black series is a race car. With a race car, the motto is, and should be, function over form. Assuming all of the changes and accoutrement are functional, It is aggressive enough and attractive enough to not warrant derision in my opinion.

That sound however is more tame than a standard AMG! Sad.

There's an article in one of my car mags about the new Ferrari with it's flat plane TT V8. Said there was no sound. Not like you would expect a Ferrari to sound like.
