How to play Spotify through USB

It works with Bluetooth and recognises the phone so am able to play music from Spotify.
when I try switch to USB it picks up the phone but it doesn’t recognise it (different name) and plays random music I didn’t even know I had.
I prefer USB over BT
I’m using android and it’s a 2018 C

I don't think that's possible. If you connect your phone via USB, it essentially gets recognized as a storage device, and the music you can play is music files that are stored on the phone's file system. If you have the Smartphone Integration package, then you can use Spotify over Android Auto, at which point you can play whatever you want, but I think w/o Android Auto, your only option is BT streaming.

Nope, not for the C Class. It's not a hidden feature in the C Class like on the other models mentioned in your google search. For MY2018, MB offered the Smartphone Integration package to add CarPlay and Android Auto, but it wasn't compatible with the Multimedia package. So it was one or the other. It can be retrofitted, but only to cars that don't have the Multimedia package. Starting with MY2019, CarPlay and Android Auto are standard in the USA and are fully compatible with the Multimedia package.

I have an iPhone, but what I’ve noticed for those of us with the built in NAV system is this: you can play streaming via Bluetooth AND you can play streaming via the USB input. That being said, if you don’t have music physically stored on your phone as well, the system won’t recognize the USB input as a music source. So on my iPhone, if I have music downloaded via iTunes it will start playing my store music when I plug it in. Then once it starts I can load up my streaming service and it will recognize and “listen”. Occasionally it will kick out to my saved tracks randomly, but usually only if I try to skip multiple songs quickly or streaming starts to struggle. It sounds like a pain (and it kind of is), but I’ve gotten used to it and put up with it for the better sound quality vs. Bluetooth. Especially if you’re using HD Amazon or Tidal.

this is iPhone, however. Not sure whether Android is the same...

USB is a storage device. For Spotify, the songs are not downloaded off of Spotify unless you manually download them for offline listening. I always just use Bluetooth. It's a dream.
