TCU Issue?

Few weeks ago my car 2016 W205 (only intermittently) started to act up. Have 40K miles on it and is up to date on service and maintenance. Mods are a RennTech tune and MW air intakes.

After an upshift the engine will hesitate for a slight second - happens in all driving modes and is more obvious in S+ than in C. Best way to explain it is a slight loss of power after a shift. With even and constant application of the throttle I can visually see the revs stay put for a split second after the shift (instead of increasing per normal).

In C with light throttle it's barely noticeable but in S+ with more throttle it bogs more heavily after each shift. Happens in auto and manual modes.

Strange thing is some days the car drives just fine. Other days it's a bit more finicky. First time this has happened since I purchased the car 6 months ago.

Anyone experience this issue before? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your transmission is starting to slip from worn clutches. You could try resetting your ECU/TCU so the transmission re-adapts and learns, but to me it sounds like a hardware issue.

Not unheard of if you’re tuned even on stock turbos. How many miles on RennTech?

Is there a way to reset the TCU, other then taking in ?? do you need a Xentry ?
And what procedure should people do when they do reset the TCU ?? Drive slow? nail it ? just normal sunday driving ? etc...

I would do an oil change in it first and go from there and see if it slips on stock tune.

It definitely could be the clutch, but I've also had similar symptoms and MB reset the TCU and the problem disappeared. Hopefully it doesn't happen to me again, but if it does, I'll be sure to try the procedure in the video post above. Thanks for that!

I tried the reset procedure and the car is acting normally again. Shifts are very smooth both up and down. Interestingly, after 20 minutes of driving I did a little in sport+ then went back to C; in doing so I forgot to turn off the auto on/off function. So Next light car turns off then on and starts shiftly weirdly again. I pull over and turn the car off then back on again. No issues since. I'll just have to remember to turn off the auto on/off feature as that seems to be causing some type of problem with how the shifts behave.
