rear fog lamps....

Random question, I'm based in Sydney Australia (RHD), have a 2016 C63s Estate. I wanted to know about the rear fog lamps and when activated, are both sides of the rear lights (left and right side) meant to come on? I activated mine for the first time not long ago as got caught up in horrendous rain and fog on the motorway (to the point some people had their hazards on). I'm curious as to when I got home, I wondered what actually got turned on (being the car you never see it) and it seems it was just a brighter light illuminated from the right-hand side brake light but are both left and right meant to be on or just the driver side? Thanks in advance...

"Some cars are designed with one or two rear fog lights. However, only the light on the driver's side is turned on to avoid confusion with brake lights. If road visibility is extremely poor and your car doesn't have rear fog lights, a driver behind you may not be able to see your car until it's too late."
